Show All SCS Activities To Have Single State Of fice Al-buqiuerqieii:, N. M., June 1 ,in accordance with the- recent ma-tional ma-tional reorganization! of the Soil Conservation Service, all Service Serv-ice 'acivities tformerly -administered from the Area Offices at Salt- Lak.- City, Price and Cedar City -will be placed under a single sin-gle state office, ar.ldi -the three area offices converted into unit oliices, Hugh- G. Oal'kins, Regional Reg-ional Cons.rvator, 'amnisu'Doed to-:iay. to-:iay. During the past two weeks, Regional SOS dfficials have been. lAorking on a reorganization chart, which has been submitted i.o Washington-. The 1-ccatiom of the Utah state office and 'the- se-lec se-lec ion of the State Conservationist, Conserva-tionist, the official who will administer ad-minister state -activities, have not as yet receiv-.d Washington confirmation. The Regional office .will continue con-tinue to operate lErom Albuquerque, Albuquer-que, as u ual, and Calkins do'eis not expect any significant changes chang-es in personnel or operations of SCS field offices now working sAih Soil Conservation Districts a.'.d o her projects. A newly organized group of 14 skilled technicians will iim the future, operate 'througlhout the Region from- r.heir Regional olli'ice headquarters in lASIbuquer-que, lASIbuquer-que, Mr. Calkins explaimed-. Under the miew plain, three Regional offices and 79 area officer of-ficer have been discontinued- in thjn nationi. The regional office at Amarillo, Texas, Dayton, Ohio, and Spokane, Washinig.on, were abolished. The Southewest Region, formerly form-erly kinowrr as Region 8, .will -now become Region 6, and will include all of Ne-w Mexico, Colorado, Colo-rado, Utah land Arizona. Formerly, For-merly, the easter tier of counties in New Mexico and the eastern half of Colorado were administered adminis-tered by the Regional olifice in Amarillo. The reorganization order, issued- by Secretary of Agriculture Claude R. Wickard, is expected to place -experienced field workers work-ers in more immediate contact with i be wartime problems iof Soil Conservation Districts and rr.diviiual farmers and ranchers, -acoeirdicg to Mr. Caikiins. |
