Show SPRING CITY R Specicd Correspondence ! Annual Old Peoples Party Grand Success at Spring City The annual Old Peoples Party was hold Friday, January 26th in the Ward Amusement Hall. V ho; dinner was served to two hundred and fifteen people, and . L..enry-two lunches were sent out to shut-ins and home-bound. ! The general committee in charge of arrangements were: Bishop and Mrs. E. B. Terry, Mr. ana ivirs. Royal Allred, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Draper, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Madsen, Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred, Mr. and Mrs. James j V. Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. Angus ' Black, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Acord, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Justesen and Mrs. Vera Downard. Mr. Lester Acord and Mrs. Vera Downard were in charge of the dinner, i Among the many guests were: the Stake Presidency, President H, C. Jacobs, Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Blain, and of the Manti Temple, Mr. and Mrs. Pratt Allred, Mr., and Mrs. Peter Poulson. Several, former residents of this city were in attendance and wives of men, now in Service of our coun- try. 1 ih: and Mrs. Morgan Johnson of Long Beach, California sent a very large bouquet of Calla lil-lies lil-lies to add to the decorations. One of these beautiful flowers was sent with a box lunch to cai-u auui in. - Mrs. Mary K. Allred, the eldest lady in attendance and age 85, .as presented with a lovely corsage cor-sage and Robert A. Brough, 85, the eldest man, was also pre-, tented with flowers. ! John Davis, 82, of this city presented pre-sented several old time violin numbers. He played for years as lead in many of the dance oichestras of earlier days. He wa3 accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Sarah Justesen. The Snow college presented a program, under the direction of Miss Phillips, which was as follows: fol-lows: vocal trio, by Rae Lou Whitlock, Thelma Sorenson, Margaret Mar-garet Fjeldsted, with Mary Sells, accompanist. Reading, by Gwen Tuttle; vocal sol, Mana Zwalen, with Mary Sells at the piano. Concert duet, by Colynn Hansen, and Olean Childester with Vera Jean Larsen as accompanist, i "Polygamous Dance," by Winona j Greaves and Dorothy Jensen, with Norma Dean, accompnist. heading, by Beth Ann Whitlock; , vocal solo, Corless Chapman. j Remarks were made by Presided Presi-ded II. C. Jacobs and Bishop E. B. Terry. Floyd Draper of the , Bishopric announced the pro-1 gram. I An acrobatic stunt was pre- ( sented by Reva Stewart and Col -: leen Jensen, with Norma Jones, as accompanist, all of the North Sanpete high school. The tables were beautifully decorated with candles, hand decorated flowers and foliage j center pieces, decorated Angel' Food cakes and decorated cup canes and place cards. A well attended dance in the evening concluded the day's program pro-gram with music furnished by a Manti orchestra. Mr. and Mrs. William Elmer of Hooper, Utah were guests-over I the week end of Mrs. Sarah E. Allred, who has been in ill health ; for some time, returned home , with Mrs. Elmer. Mrs. Eunice Larsen of Lehi came to attend the Old eoples ' party and visited with relatives! at the home of Mr. and Mrs. ' Floyd Draper. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Larsen Lar-sen and small son, David of Fairview visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred. Mrs. Ruth Osborne of this city and Mr. and Mrs. Gardell Osborne Os-borne of Fairivew attended the funeral services Thursday of their aunt, Mrs. Malinda Griffiths Grif-fiths at Holliday. They will visit relatives in Tooele and Midvale before returning home. Miss Elverna Carlson entertained enter-tained a group of young people at a party at her home Sunday evening. Miss Nedra Fullmer, now employed em-ployed in Salt Lake City, came home recently to visit her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Fullmer. Full-mer. Miss Verna Allred spent the week end visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Allred. Miss Allred is employed in Salt Lake City. Mrs. Ella Carlson is in Salt Lake City visiting her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Earl, Franthen and- daughters. Mr. Frathen, for some time in charge of the Mens Clothing Department De-partment at Auerbachs company is being transferred to Califonia. The ward M. I. A. sponsored a dancing party, Thursday evening eve-ning in the ward Amusement Hall with Manti Old Time orchestra or-chestra furnishing the music. I Miss Manett Allred was sur-j sur-j prised by a group of friends at her home Monday evening. They were: Mr. and Mrs. Leon Allred, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Allred, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Allred, Mrs. Myrtle Myr-tle Allred, Mrs. Rose S. Peterson, Mrs. Eva Erickson, Mrs. Ethelyn I Anderson, Mrs. Ferris Norman ' and Mr. and Mrs. James W. Blain. (Continued from first page.) Mrs. Grace B. Allred was a visitor vis-itor in Salt Lake City last week, visiting with several relatives before returning home. Mr. Gilbert E. Nyberg, who has been away several months visiting his children, spent several sev-eral days visiting at the home of Mrs. Eva Erickson. He will leave this week for Sacramento, California. His daughter, Mrs. Hans Larsen, will undergo an operation within the next two weeks. Mrs. Eva Kimber of Pro-vo Pro-vo will accompany her father. Nr. and Mrs. James W. Blain received word recently that their son, Lyle Blain, who is in the Service, has arrived safely in France. Several townspeople attended the Memorial Services held Sunday Sun-day in Moroni ward for Grandon Ostler, son of Mrs. Serena Ostler, who was killed December 25, in the European theater of war. Townspeople attending the service serv-ice were: Mr. and Mrs. Max Blain and family, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Blain, Mrs. Angus Black, Mr. and Mrs. William Baxter Bax-ter and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Hansen. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Allred have received word that their son, Leroy Allred, somewhere in the South Pacific, has been promoted to Chief Aviation Machanists Mate. He has seen several years in Service. Mrs. Angus Black received a recent letter from Spencer Thompson, written "Somewhere in Germany." He tells of the snow and cold there, and also going on a deer hunt and bag-' ging a deer to eat. He said the deer there were very small and no larger than a dog. He is a member of General Patten's army. Mr. and Mrs. George Allred, now visiting at Pleasant Grove, will leave Tuesday evening to visit Mr. and Mrs. D. N. Aiken at Las Vegas, Nevada. Spring City School News During the past week the Jr. High of Spring City had two basketball games. One, Eighth grade of Mt. Pleasant playing Eighth grade of our home team, score 28-14 with Spring City on top. The other, an exciting game at Fiirview. The girls in the Basketball Pep club were all present and were all dressed in the school colors of Blue and White. Tuesday, January 30th the Seventh grade boys are playing Fairview Seventh grade in basket ball at Fairview, and we hope to win another victory. Fountain Green is planning to play basket ball over in our Gym Wednesday, the 31st. .We are expecting great results from this game and hope to give them ? hard struggle.. J Our princpal and coach, Reid H. Allred, is practicing with the league boys and training them to play well, and to win. Mr. Terry, our band leader, starting a Pep Band. There are ten in tiiis band and Donald Fullmer was chosen assistant conductor. On Wednesday we expect to win the game and have our Pep Band play for the first time. The March of Dimes is on, and the schools of Spring City have made sig.is on large cans and have had them put in the stores, theater and at school. We sincerely sin-cerely hope our contributions will help some unfortunate persons. A Safety show in moving pictures pic-tures was presented to the Ele-mentry Ele-mentry and the Jr. High school last week.
