Ass.stant Tram Master Bolton of the Denver and Rio Grande called at the Supervisor s Off ice on January 28 to discuss advertising advertis-ing and, incidently, to advise local officers of the advantages his company is now offering in the way of reduced passenger fares on the railroads. Ranger Thursby is the possessor pos-sessor of a brand new Chevrolet coupe. He and the misses drove to Cedar City where he secured his new car on January 29. Ranger and Mrs. Thursby are this week moving to their new home in Mt. Plesant. Ranger Thursby has spent approximately approximate-ly twenty years on District 3 of ihe Mann Forest. His transfer to Mt Pleasant is a promotion, both n salary and responsibility. The permittees of Ephraim and other communities .have expressed themselves as sorry to lose Ranger Thursby, with whom they have worked very satisfactorialy during his period of service on District 3. Supervisor Humphrey spent Friday and Saturday in Emery and Carbon Counties on official business. Ranger H. M. Peterson and wife were in Salt Lake City February 1 and 2 where they attended the ceremonies in connection with the presentation of a Hereford bull to the stockmen of Utah by Sears-Roebuck and company. The banquet Friday evening was reported re-ported to be a very successful and enjoyable affair. Weather Ranger Anderson reports heavy precipitation throughout Emery County Febraury 1 and 5, and if he knows his weather, these storms are going to continue for rometime to come. Lions During the past fortnight a hunter staying at the Delen Olsen Ranch in Lower Joe's Valley part time and in Huntmgton Canyon part time was successful in capturing cap-turing lour mountain lions in tne Joe's Valley section and two iOins in the Ferron Canyon section. sec-tion. These six lions, together with the three already caugnt on die Manti Forest this year, make a total of nine lions taken on this Forest so far this season. Range Improvements The WPA workers under Lee Young are now constructing a boundary east of Spring City. Claud Maylett plans on moving his ERA crew over tn th flttncpn Hollow boundary fence on February Feb-ruary 6. This job will probably require between two and three weeks time to complete. Game Notes Mr. Henning Olson of Price, Utah, who operates a sawmill in Pole canyon, a tributary of the Right Fork of Huntington Creek, reports that the snow is approximately approxi-mately two feet deep at his sawmill. saw-mill. Upon the occasion of his last trip to the mill he reports having seen the tracks of between be-tween 15 and 20 elk that have oeen grazing in Huntington canyon. can-yon. Ihese animals, as indicated oy their tracks, drifted up onto the south face of the Gentry Mountain. According to Mr Olsen there have been tracks of mountain lion in the vicinity of nis mill in the recent past. He reports re-ports that right now deer are very numerous in Huntington Canyon. Livestock Meetings The annual meetings of the ornery County cattlemen will be 'AL dr,F,obruary 13 t0 lli inclusive. On I-ebruary 22 Mr. L. C. Montgomery, Mont-gomery, President of the State Cattle and Horse Growers Association, As-sociation, is scheduled to meet with the Emery County stockmen stock-men in the new court house in Castle Dale. |
