Show This is the first news of any serious defection on the part of the Russian people during the war. The news dispatches do not indicate the extent of the defections but they give us some idea of the motive behind the Rusyan veil 'of secrecy. The action of the Russian Gov-i Gov-i ernment was probably justified by the exigencies of warfare. At the same time, there is no indication whatever that the Soviet regime in Moscow does not now inflict the same form of punishment upon those guilty of political opposition. There is no sign of anything like political freedom as it is known in the Western democracies. |
