He is a former student of the University Uni-versity of Utah and a graduate of Heneager's Business College io2f entTd tne Armv in July 1940 and attended Officers Quartermaster School in Fort Warren, Wyoming. After being stationed in Pendelton, Oregon and Sioux City, Iowa, he was sent overseas in August, 1943 His mother, Mrs. Jithelyn Andersen, And-ersen, lives at Spring City. Pfc. Willard Sorensen is home on a 30-day furlough. He is a veteran of the European campaign, cam-paign, having participated in three major operations in Germany Ger-many and Austria. He is a member of the 13th Armored Division, a branch of the Third Army. He went overseas in January, 1945. He is the husband of Mrs. Vlda Sorensen and a son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Sorensen. A brother, Lee Ray Sorensen, a member of the Navy, is in overseas over-seas service. Lt. Keith R. Allred left Thursday Thurs-day afternoon to resume his work at an Air Corps Instructor at Enid, Oklahoma. He had been home on a week's furlough visiting vis-iting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Reid H. Allred. They accompanied accom-panied him to Salt Lake City prior to his leaving. T5 Lyndon Jensen spent the week end home vsiting his parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. George Jensen. Jen-sen. At present he is stationed at Bushnell Hospital. Sgt. and Mrs. Keith Burger announce the birth of their first children and baby daughter on Saturday at the Dr. G. B. Madsen hospital at Mt. leasant. Both mother and baby are doing well. She was the former Miss La Veil Rasmussen of this city. Sgt. Burger is in the Observation Observa-tion Division of the Air orps, and at present is stationed at Camp Kearns, Utah. Mrs. McKay Anderson and little lit-tle daughter, Sheila are spending a month in Fort Lewis, Washington Washing-ton with her husband, Pvt. R. McKay Andersen. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Glanz, Mrs. Ferre Andersen and small daughter, Sharon Lynne visited in this city over the week end at the home of Mrs. Ethelyn Andersen. And-ersen. Mrs. Mary Finell was the hostess host-ess to the members of the Beehive Bee-hive group ladies on Friday afternoon. af-ternoon. Knitting, Crocheting and sewing was the diversion of the afternoon. A tasty luncheon was enjoyed by eleven members and three special guests. Pvt. Elbert Jensen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oren Jensen, left on Wednesday evening for Fort Ord, California, after a two weeks furlough at home. Mrs. Max Blain was hostess Monday evening to the members of the K. K. club. The occasion being her birthday. The evening was spent in playing games and the hostess served a delicious lunch to the several guests pres- Mr and Mrs. Frank Van Cott of Cedar City are visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Mad-sen Mad-sen Mr. Van Cott, an accomplished accom-plished musician presented a beautiful piano meditation of church hymns at Sacrament meting Sunday. Mrs Doyle Madsen has been a recent visitor at Salt Lake City. Mr and Mrs. Pratt Osborne visited in Salt Lake City Sunday anMrsMOunidnona Allred entertained tv,o Rridoe club members and special guests at her home Thursday Thurs-day evening in observance of her bfrthday. She served delicious refreshments to the guests. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Donaldson are the proud parents of a baby boy born Saturday at the Moroni Mo-roni hospital. Both mother and baby are doing fine. This is their third child and second boy. Mrs. Leona Terry, Mrs. Lc iKee Hickman, Golden Dean and 1 Caro Terry visited in Ogden the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Acord. Funeral Held For Harrison Mott Funeral services were held in the ward chapel Wednesday afternoon af-ternoon for H. Harrison Mo t who died in a Salt Lake uiiy hospital. Another is now serving in the Pacific campaign. He asked for God's blessings and comfort on this family. Vocal solo, "One Sweetly Solemn Sol-emn Thought," was sung by Mrs. Rose Schofield. Speaker F. C. Sorensen said Mr. Mott was diligent in his work. He had always been active ac-tive and a good worker. He came of a fine family. Pie will again meet with his loved ones and there will be a happy reunion. The closing song, "Sometime We'll Understand," was renueieu by the choir. Closing prayer was offered by John Petersen. A group of men friends car-ried car-ried the beautiful flowers from the chapel. Interment was in the City cemetery, under the direction di-rection of the Jacobs Mortuary of Mt. Pleasant. At a special meeting Mednes-day Mednes-day evening in the City Hall Angus Black was voted to act as School Board member of this city to succeed Joseph I. Beck, who is resigning from that office. of-fice. MT. and Mrs. Harold Arnoldson and children of Moroni visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph I. seek and Mrs. Trena Black. I Mrs. Myrl C. Jones returned home from Salt Lake City, where sne accompanied her husband, Jerrold J. Jones, who is enroute to Washington, D. C. ' He is a veteran of the Pacific campaign and a member of the Navy. Word has been received by relatives that Pvt. Eathen Petersen Peter-sen is now stationed in the Philippines. Phil-ippines. The ward Prmary, under the direction of Mrs. Libbie Allrcd and Mrs. Olga Black, presented the pageant, "The Light of The World," Sunday evening in the ward Amusement hall, as a special spe-cial Sunday evening service. The Blue Bird and Seagull girls, Joyce Sorensen, Bonnie Brooks, Carol Allred Lenore All- red, Ruth Ellis, Carol Terry, Dona Bunnell, Lois Beck, Noreen Acord, Carol Marie Robinson, Marilyn Christensen, Norma Dean Schofield, Scho-field, and Mehl Ree Draper, directed di-rected by Mrs. Lo Ree Hickman, sang the songs for the pageant. Reader was Mrs. Christie Bunnell. Bun-nell. The choir boys were, Gordon Gor-don Blain, Ellis Dye, Don Allred, Don Schofield, Ross Aiken and Glen Osborne. Representing the natoins were: Joan Ball, Perry Dye, Leo Osborne, Franklin Jensen, Jen-sen, and Patsy Allred. A vocal duet was presented by Mrs. Hickman and Mrs. La Fern Jensen. In connection with the pageant page-ant a graduation exercise was conducted for the Seagull girls: Carol Allred, Bonnie Brooks, Joyce Sorensen and Guide Boys: Grant Watson, and Charles Osborne. Os-borne. Participating were: Mrs. Olga Black, Mrs. Virgus Osborne, Mrs. Lorna Jensen, Bishop E. B. Terry and Scout Leader, Joseph F. Hansen. Sepcial talks were given by Mrs. Black and Burns Allred. The stage was beautifully decorated dec-orated and many beautiful bouquets bou-quets of flowers were an added attraction. Stake Primary officers of-ficers in attendance were: Mrs. Ada Ellis, Mrs. Helen M. Mad-sen Mad-sen and Mrs. Virgus Osborne. Mr. and Mrs. Arvil Diamond and children, Lola, Brent and Hal of Midvale, Utah visited Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Osman Osborne, also Clifford Clif-ford Justesen and Miss Ethel Osborne Os-borne were visitors at the Osborne Os-borne home and the- home of Mrs. Jane Justesen. Mrs. Minnie D. Barney, one of our most active and ardent church members was honored on her birthday by ner family and many friends. Mrs. Barney was born August 10, 1869 at Spring City, a daughter daugh-ter of Sidney R, and Lucy Ann Allred. Her husband, William C. Barney died several years ago, leaving her a large family to rear. She has served as secretary of the Chester ward Primary, ward Primary teacher, ward Primary Pri-mary president for many years, Sunday School teacher, ward re-life re-life society visiting teacher and has served in various other church duties. She is the mother of ten children. chil-dren. Eight sons, Lynn Barney, Spring City; Clive Barney, Robert Rob-ert Barney, Los Angeles Calif.; Virt, Pat and Avon Barney, Delta, Utah; Reid Barney of Wyoming and Archie Parney. Two daughters, daugh-ters, Mrs. Lorna Jensen, Spring City and Mrs. Lucy Parkin, Long Peach, California. All of the children chil-dren of Mrs. Barney are living. |
