Show Layne Nordstrom of Fairview Killed In Action In Pacific With Marines Saw Action On Ill-Fated Aircraft Carrier Lexington Word 1 wa received Monday, June 15th by Mr. and Mrs. Martin G. Nordstrom of Fair-view Fair-view of the deJaeh of their son, Private First Class C Layne Nordstram, age 21, who .was killed in action in his duty in the United States Marine Corps. Privaie Nordstrom was born January 15, 1921 in Glenwood, A.b.rta, Canada, the son of Martin and Ellen Peterson Nord.trom. He spent the first eleven years of his life in Canada, Can-ada, attending grammar school Jne-re. In 1932 .the family caimle to Fairview iwhere they have lived since. He graduated in May 1939 orem North Sanipete high school. He 'was one of the first from Fairview to volunteer for service serv-ice to our country, and is the iirst from Fairvieiw known) to have lost his life. He joined he Marine Corps in September 1940 at San Diego, California and was s.iationed oni am aircraft air-craft carrier in December 1940, and has been in action in thie Pacific .war zone ever since the war started. He saw action on -he same aircraft carrier as Lieu.enant Edward O'Hare aend -aw hia heroic action. Beside his parents he is sur-vied sur-vied by the (following brothers and sisters: Leland N. Nordstrom Nord-strom of Provo; Pearl Cole of Provo; Ora Miner of Pamiona, California; and Elma Nordstrom of Fairview. Imeerment 'took place oear the vicinity of his death. |
