Show Pvt. J. Frank Childs Receives Battle Honors For Meritorious Meritori-ous Achievement In Action Mrs. Iva Childs Edmunds of Wales, Utah has received word from Ninth Air Force Headquarters Headquar-ters in England that her son, Private J. Frank Childs was a member of the 438th Troop Carrier Car-rier Group, which received a citation cita-tion for Battle Honors for outstanding out-standing performance of duty in action against the enemy on June 5, 6, and 7, 1944. On these dates members of Group Headquarters, and of the 87th, 88th, 89th and 90th Troop Carrier Squadrons of the 438th Troop Carrier Group accomplished ac-complished 131 powered aircraft sorties and 50 glider sorties, fearlessly fear-lessly approaching their objec-I objec-I tives through a barrage of anti-I anti-I aircraft fire to lead the Troop Carrier spearhead of the Allied invasion of Europe in the greatest great-est airborne operation in the history his-tory of world aviation. Despite adverse weather conditions, personnel per-sonnel of this group unflinching-lydischarged unflinching-lydischarged their paratroops and released gliders with extreme accuracy ac-curacy while flying at dangerously danger-ously low altitudes and minimum mini-mum air speeds. Functioning as a perfectly balanced team, the 438th Troop Carrier Group, by its successful accomplishment of these missions in such a gallant and distinguished manner, rendered ren-dered outstanding service to the Army Air Corps.
