Some misunderstanding seems to have aris.n relative to the1 open season on female deer which has beien arjnoiuao d by the State Game officials. There are some- who have the impression that does can be killed anywhere in Sanpete County; others, that dees can, be killed anywhere any-where on the Manti Forest. This is not correct. On the Manti Forest, in the Twelve-Mile Drarinage only will it be legal to kill does. A special spe-cial license, costing $2.00, will be (necessary. Ths State Game Department Depart-ment w ll have rpcial deputies at Mayfield who will be authorized to sell licenses for the hunting of does. Fifteen Day Op-n Season on Bucks The op"n season for huting male deler with horns in Utah will be from October 20th to November 4th, both dates1 lncusive. Elk Licence Fee $10.00 For 1935, the license for residents of Utah for hunting elk will be $10.00. Last ye.ar, the licejnse was $5.00 on the Manti Forest. This wa" an attempt to popularize the sport for local residents. However, the $5.00 fee failed to induce local residents resi-dents to get cut and hunt their elk so that there was no advantage to be gain: d by thio reduction in hunting hunt-ing f. es. This year, there will be aj uniform charge of $10.00 to residents cf Utah thruout the State. Elk Habits: From now on until winter is well on tlie way, elk will often be found in those lccaliiies where Service-berr.es Service-berr.es are plentiful. Not only are these berries highly palatable to elk, but the leaver and twigs are also choice forage in the fall of the1 year for these animals. An analysis of the stomach content:? of an t lk killed in September showed clearly 90 per c:nt cf the forage eaten to be miade up of S rvice-berries and the leaves and twigs of that plant. |
