On February 8th also as provided in the National By-Laws of the Boy Scouts of America, members of the Movement recommit themselves in formal ceremony to the Scout Oath and Law. the guiding principals of the Movement. When that point was reached the boy refused re-fused a tip for hie trouble, saying that he was a Boy Scout and that Boy Scouts do no take tips for "good turns." , This so surprised and impressed Mr. Boyce that he asked the lad more about the Bey Scouts. The boy accompanied him to the London Lon-don Scout headquarters where Mr. Boyce received information that filled him with enthusiasm. Soon after hir return to the United States he consulted friends, also deeply interested In boys, and on February 8, 1910 the group incorporated incor-porated the Boy Scouts cf America in Washington, D. C. The first National Office of the Boy Scouts of America wae opened in New York on January 2, 1911, by Dr. James E. West and seven employees. em-ployees. Dr. West has been the Chief Scout Executive since then and as administrative head of the movement ha had the satisfaction of seeing more than 7,000.000 American Amer-ican boys and men influenced by the Scout Oath and Law and the movement's activities. The year 1936 saw great gains in all branch- es of the Scout Movement. The year ended with well over a million active Scouts and leaders in virtu- ' ally every city, town, village and I hamlet in the land. |
