Show Time To Get at the Truth The reputation of Gen. Smedley D. Butler as a fighting mare gives prominence to the speeches of the Marine leader and for this reason somebody should take .note of hisi recent statement that "I was the greatest bill collector Wall Street ever sent into the Central Amlerican republic." Everyone knows that Smedley was in on thci ground floor when military prersure was applied to the baMana republics, and the presumption is that he talks with authority. Specifically Spe-cifically he is reported to have stated: "I us d my marines ten collect, col-lect, taking orders direct not from Washington, but from Wall Street." Thi" is a serious charge. It should be investigated as soon as possible. Perheps Smedl'y was talking to hear what hie said but the nature of the statement offers an easy avenue of inquiry. Let thi? ex-marinle give the names of those who gave him his orders, telling the times and tin places. The public can se? whether Washington or Wall was running th? nation on the various occariens.
