Show Public Health Column The sl(:gan, "The health of the child is the power cf the nation," was stre:sed in the second meeting cf the State-wide central committee fortfre 1939 annual observance of May Day as Child Health Day. The meeting, at the Lion House in Salt Lake City, was presided over by-Mrs. by-Mrs. Marcia K. Howells, who has been designated 3s State-wide chairman representing the National Woman's Relief Society, which is serving this year as the sponsoring ager.cy fcr the observance. The meeting was attended by the following re. iresentatives from organizations org-anizations with State-wide membership mem-bership which have special interest in child health: Dr. D. L. Primary Association; Miss Bernice Moss, State Board of Education; Mrs. Louise Y. Robinson, Robin-son, L. D. S. Relief Society; Mrs. Martin R. Fraser, State Department Depart-ment of Public Welfare; Miss Mar-cella Mar-cella Mclnnerny, Utah State Board of Health; Miss Lily Hagerman. Utah State Board of Health; Mrs. L. R. Edwards, American Legion Auxiliary; Mr. D. C. Houston, Utah State Board of Health; Dr. E. B. Kuhe, Junior Chamber of Commerce; Com-merce; Dr. Philo T. Farnsworth, P. T. A.; Mr. C. P. Rockwood, P. T. A.; Dr. Spencer Snow. Utah State Medical Association. A comimittee iwas appointed to formulate a memorandum of suggestions sug-gestions for local observance of the day, which will, prepare its report for distribution to local comimittee members within, the next few days. National May Day observances as Child Health Day were first sponsored spon-sored by the American Child Health Association following the World War, and the National Congress in 1928 directed the President of the United States to proclaim the day as Cnild Health Day each year. |
