Show Forset Notes Fishing: Notes Two truck leads cf legal size fish were planted in the lake near the Ephraim community camp ground by B. L. Rowland on June 9th. There were included in this shipment 150 extra large trout furnished us by the Federal hatchery hatch-ery at Springville. Fishermen who visited this lake on June 15 report excellert catches. Approximately 1000 fish were taken frcm the lake on the opening day. Some of the anglers landed trout from 14 to 10 inches in length. On June 13 Supervisor Humphrey Humph-rey brcught a load of Eastern Brock fmgerlings from the Federal Feder-al hatchery and planted them in the tributaries of Twelve Mile Creek. Four cans were planted in a lake near the head of Clear C;eek, five cans were planted in New Field reservoir, and six cans were planted in Deep reservoir and Cowboy lake. The fish reachrd the various waters in excellent condi-tirn. Mr. O. V. Anderson, the game warden frcm Mt. Pleasant, has advised local officers that Price River between Scofield Reservoir and the Gooseberry fish pond will be closed until July 1. Both these reservoirs, however, were opened to fishing June 15. Personal Mention W. W. Blakeslee and Frank E. Wccldridge were visitors at the Supervisor's office on June 7. At that time they looked over the maintenance wcrk on the Twelve Mile Canyon and1 Beaver Creek roads. They stopped in Ephraim .again for a few minutes on June 14 on their way to the Wasatch Forest. John F. Parker from Syracuse, New York, arrived in Ephraim on June 6 to accept a- position as a forest guard. Harris B. Holt stopped at the Supervisor's office on June 14 on his way to Ferron, where he will join the glazing survey party now working cut from the Stevens Creek shelter. Mrs. Holt and the two children plan on locating at Ferron during the time Mr. Holt is out on grazing survey work. Ephraim Road Open to Tcp II)) Ep'hiairn-OrainJjeVille Road is now open on the west side to the top of the mountain. Two cars that were snowea in at the Ephraim tunnel were brcught to town on June 8 after spending the winter in tlie deep snows. From all appearances the cars did not suiTer any serious damage other than a dulling of the paint job. Fire Tiaininff The annual fire training school for the Manti Forest per diem guards and the CCC enrollees of the Ferron Camp was held June 10 and 11. The theory of fire fighting fight-ing was treated at the camp June 10 by Rangers Cox and Thursby, Superintenednt Warthen, and Supervisor Sup-ervisor Humphrey. The field train ing took place on June 1 at the timber area near Thistle Flat. Here Rangers Anderson and Thursby Thurs-by had flagged an imaginary fire. Two fire crews were selected, one to start cne way around the fire and the other to start in the opposite op-posite direction. Foreman Cheney and Keller had charge of the respective re-spective crews. After the fire had been surrounded with a good trench the entire group joined In offering criticisms on the methods followed and the work cone. Koad Contract . to Be Let Engineer L. J. Smyth has advised advis-ed the Supervisor's office that F. R. Knowiton, the contractor on a section sec-tion cf the Upper Huntington Canyon Can-yon Road, will commience work on June 2; and' that an additional six and one-half miles of this road will probably be let by July 1. On this section cf the road work should start the latter part of July. Mr. Smyth has established his camp near the Beaver Dams. Mrs. Smyth and family will use the Reese Bench summer home in the Beaver Dams area this summer. |
