Show Farmers Asked For Ideas On 1938 AAA Plan What kindl of an AAA soil-conservation program should there be for 1938? This is the big question which farmers in this state are being asked this month in county meetings meet-ings held to discuss recommendations recommenda-tions foi' next year's agricultural conservation program!, Director William Peterson, in charge of the AAA program in this state says. Plans for 1938 are now being made in order that the program can be formulated early in the fall so that farmers will know about the provisions of the program when planning their farming operations oper-ations for next year. To get the answer u me big question of what kind of program to have, farmer recommendations will be sought on five general groups of questions. These are as fallows: (1) BASES: On this the discussion discus-sion Is on whether the base should be the so-called "normal" base, whether average county ratios of soil-depleting and soli-conserving crops to cropland should be used, or whether the basis should be a balanced cropping system with a recommended proportion of soil-depleting soil-depleting crops to soil-conserving crops. (2) DIVERSION AND NON-DIVERSION FARMS: Is the diversion divers-ion and non-diverison classification classifica-tion satisfactory, What should be the method of determining a nondiversity non-diversity farm? (3) PAYMENTS: What proportion propor-tion of payments should be for diversion di-version and what proportion for soil-building and scil-conserving practices? Should payment be made for all practices, or only those above normal amount? (4) PRACTICES: What practices practic-es should be added to the list now being used, and what cnes should bo eliminated? What can be dene to adapt the program to specialised special-ised crops? (5) LAND OF LOW PRODUC-UBITY: PRODUC-UBITY: Does the present program encourage use of land of low p o-ductivity, o-ductivity, which shculd be used less intensively? After the general sentiment cf farmers is obtained, state recommendations recom-mendations will be made, and these will then be forwarded to Washington Wash-ington to be considered with recommendations rec-ommendations from ether states in formulating a national program for 1938. |
