Show Selected Thoughts. It is time peoples came to their senses. It is hih time we try to forget how to make men rich and center on how to make them freer and better. How the standpat papers turned on W. J. Bryan, They actually called him anarchist, blasphemer, Anti-Christ crackpot, crack-pot, and told theii readers that anyone ad vocatingsuch reforms was of and for the criminal class and was out to assasinate America. The interests defeated him for office but most of his ideas could not be defeated. T ey carried on and when the interests tried to save the government from the common people and elected Theodore Roosevelt he carried many of Bryan's ideas into practise, to the great dissapointment of the ones who opposed them A great light is shining through the dark war clouds in old England. It is the new Social Security proposal for all the eommon people -the best yet proposed by man for his fellows We are happy and thankful that we have lived to see the day of such a proposal and we shall devote our remaining days to bringing it and even better things to our country It is the dream, in part at least, of the prophets and Saviours and Redeemers Re-deemers beginning to come down from the high horizons to dwell among men. It Is Justice coming down from the high ones and a ground-swelling revelation to the people down under. Do not oppose it you wealthy, who live in palaces and luxury for it is God's hand trying to lift His people up to the place you havedenie l them. Truth is marching on! We are of the opinion that the present struggle in the world is britween Christ and Anti-Christ and that the latter1 is about as well exemplified as he can be. But there are those who claim he is yet to come, and that when he does come he will make1 Hitler look like two bits. Students of the Bible1 have long ago predicted the rise of all time's most cruel, vicious and powerful man, a demon-obsessed dictator. The scriptures give him many names. Besides Anti-Christ he is called Crooked Crook-ed Serpent, the bloody and deceitful man, -the wicked onet rod of God's anger, the destroyer, the beast the cruel one, etc. They say he is living now but his rulership is future. They furthersay that he will make the avVful things of the present day look like play. How rocky and thorny is the way of political 'and economic econ-omic progress. Those patriots who itoodjrl the forefront of the fight for so many of the progressive'reforms that 'have come about iri recent times had a very'hard time of it. While William Jennings Bryan Was not the first henay well be clas-sed clas-sed among some of the pioneer. He came1 demanding the reforms for which he stood, and many of thera have been en-acted en-acted into law. When Benedict Arnold, the traitor went to London hp visited Parliament and took a seat in the gallery. A prominent speaker arose to make an address. Pointing his finger atTMr" Arnold h shouted: "I cannot speak while'that man is fn the house " Were-we, personally; to make an address ?n congress we would say the same about at least one man who sits therp supported by the government he has tried to Undermine and sell out to the enemy. When he and his kind have suceeded in bringing on serious internal trouble the enemy will invade and come burning and destroying. Keep this item until'that day and see how right we were. ! The National Christian Science nWar Relief Committee has 1500 branch units in the U. S. besides many In Canada, Great Britain, Australia and'Africa. They have" assembled for use 66,000 pounds of durable clothing, 32 800 garments have been distributed to U S, service men and 100 overcoats to Britsh officers; Folding cots have been given to seamen's clubs. Refusrees from the far East and frcm torpedoed ships i in the Atlantic ( have been cared for. They have distributed . clothing and comforts to bombed out people in sevsn countries and much clothing and knitted gnods to Russia. Food has gone forth to heavily bombed places and many workers have ! labored dillijren t.ly. Also money. This is fine. "Inasmuch as yon have done it unto the least of these. ..ye have done it unto me." ; There are those who maintain that the soldiers need liquor to stimulate them. But here comes an Associated Press reporter re-porter telling About the British commanding officer, then hard on the heels of Field Marshall Erwin Rommel. He says: "He is Lieut. Gen. Bernard Law Montgomery, a two fited-hard-fighting, non-smoking, non drinking veteran of the World War and of campaigns in Palestine. India, Mesopotamia Mesopo-tamia and Fianders " If drink is so essential to the winnine of wars, one wonders why a "reat commanding officer should place special emphasis upon the fact that he neither smokes smokes nor drinks. In spite of all the contentions that liquor should be permitted in military establisments to insure the morale of the soldiers and officers the fact, still remains that liquor is an enemy which should be utterly destroyed. |
