Local FFA Chapter Wins Top Honors At State Convention In Salt Lake City Friday, Saturday Fourteen members of the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove High School chapter of Future Farmers of America, attended at-tended the state convention of the organization last Friday and Saturday. Sat-urday. All sessions of the two-day concave were held in the New-house New-house Hotel. In competition with some 500 high school boys representing 50 other Utah chapters, the Pleasant Grove boys walked off with top honors. The local club scored highest in Complete Chapter Activity Act-ivity for the current school year, according to Willis M. Banks, club adviser. The competing chapters were judged on the following types of activity: Recreation, Community Service, Cooperative Effort, Supervised Farming, Earning Earn-ing and Saving, Leadership, Scholarship, Schol-arship, and Conduct of Meetings. Their success in Salt Lake City now entitles the boys to compete for the "Gold Emblem National Awai'd". Club President, Eddie Oscarson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin K. Oscarson, also received the Carl Raymond Gray Union Pacific Railroad Scholarship Award for outstanding FFA activity. In addition ad-dition the Pleasant Grove chapter won a $50 cash prize for their club excellence. Chapter Sweethearts and their attendants from all of the Utah chapters were honored guests at the convention. Girls from Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove were, Sweetheart Dar-lene Dar-lene Carson and Attendants Carol Fraughton and Mary Lynn Baxter. Chairmen of the groups whose activities were responsible for winning the top chapter award include: Gary Carson, Lynn Jepp-son, Jepp-son, Marrion Johnson, Leon Gill-man, Gill-man, Ross Nielson, Calvin White-ley, White-ley, Lyman Nielson, De Wayne Iverson and Jerry Robinson. |
