Show May Establishes Claim for Freak Weather Month For freakish weather, the month of May established some sort of record, according to Calvin Walker, Walk-er, local U.S. weather observer. There were 17 days out of the 31, when there was sufficient rainfall to register on the moisture gauge; but the total was only 0.83 of an inch. The Pleasant Grove normal for May is 1:50 inches, Mr. Walker said. Lowest recorded: temperature for the month was 29 degrees above zero on the morning of May 16. Warmest day was on the 21st, when the mercury climbed to 84. There were four other relatively warm days, May 6, 7, 20, and 30, when the thermometer read a maximum of 83. "Had we been provided with a 'dust meter', records would have been broken all over the place; and the number of days when the wind reached gale intensity has been out of all proportion," Mr. Walker concluded. June got off to a good start as far as rainfall is concerned. Wednesday's w-elcome rainstorm dumped 0.60 of an inch of the much-needed liquid over the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove area, according to U.S. weather observer Calvin Walker. Snow which fell on the foothills East of town had fruit and tomato growers walking about with their fingers crossed. However, 40 degrees de-grees was the lowest temperature recorded Wednesday night. |
