Show Leo Harveys Return From Water Meet In San Francisco Mr. and Mrs. Leo Harvey returned re-turned Monday from San Francisco where they attended the Conference Confer-ence of the International Commission Com-mission on Irrigation and Drainage. Drain-age. Mr. Hai-vey represented Utah at the convention. There were forty-one countries represented at the conference, most of of the countries of the Mid-East were there, also eleven delegates from Soviet Russia. Each country's representative gave a report on irrigation ir-rigation in their country.-' These reports were of a technical nature. Earphones were provided for the delegates with translations of the different languages. At the banquet held at the Sheraton-Palace Hotel, Congressman Congress-man Clair Engle was master of ceremonies. Mr. Engle is chairman of the Committee on Interior and Insular affairs. He introduced officers of-ficers of the organization and honored hon-ored guests. The speaker of the evening was the Honorable O. Hatfield Hat-field Chilson, Under-seoretary, United States Department of Interior. In-terior. After the conference, a study tour was planned from May 6 to May 17 which included demonstrations demonstra-tions of modem irrigation equipment equip-ment and materials and a tour through the State of California showing the delegates features of irrigation, flood control and agriculture, agri-culture, featuring the U.S. Rice Station, implement manufacturing, cotton farming-, citrus growing, ranch operation, experiment stations, sta-tions, etc., andl the multi-purpose dams. The Russians were not allowed to take the tour because their government would not allow the same privileges in their country. |
