Show Historical Society To Meet at BYU Saturday The next regular meeting of the Utah Valley unit of the State Historical His-torical Society will be held Saturday, Satur-day, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the David O. McKay Building on the upper BYU campus. Lucile H. Walker, president of the Utah Valley unit, stated on Wednesday that Dr. Richard Poll will be the featured speaker. Dr. Poll will review parts of his Doctor's Thesis, titled "How Utah's struggle for Statehood was affected by the slavery issue; and the rise of the Republican Party." Other activities featured during the evening will include music by the University music department, a tour of the McKay Building, and an explanation of the Historical Society's current Senior High School essay contest. Mrs. Walker emphasized that essays es-says on any one of six suggested historical topics must be completed complet-ed and in the hands of the committee com-mittee by April 15, 1955. Mrs. Le-Roy Le-Roy R. Hafen, Provo, is chairman of the essay committee. |
