Show 10,000 Reflector Plates Available To Utah Drivers For the additional cost of fifty cents, 10,000 motorists in the State of Utah may receive license plates which are top quality 6 x - reflectorized plates, Arias G. Belnap, State Tax Commissioner said today. As a result of many meetings held with various government groups interested in safety, the Utah State Tax Commission will issue 10,000 sets of reflectorized license plates during 1960 as an experiment to evaluate -the effectiveness ef-fectiveness of such plates in providing pro-viding additional highway safety at night. Utah's 1960 license plates will be a silver-greycolor with red letters and figures. The experimental experi-mental reflective plates will be manufactured at the State Prison land issued to motorists who are willing to pay the additional 50 cents to reimburse the additional cost of manufacturing these plates. These "glow-in-ths-dark" license plates are visible up to 2,000 feet at night in high-beam headlights. Safe driving groups point out this visibility should toe helpful in reducing rear-end collisions and facilitate oar identification, iden-tification, Commissioner Belnap said. Motorists who desire to obtain these plates will be given an op- , portunity to order them at the Tax Commission offices located in the State Capitol Building in Salt Lake Oity, or the Branch offioes in Vernal, Cedar City, Price, Logan, Lo-gan, Provo, and Ogden, during the period of Dec. 15th to Dec. 31st by obtaining a certificate and receipt of payment of the 50 cents and then presenting this certificate to the Tax Commission office (where obtained) for one set of reflectorized license plates for passenger automobiles only at the time 'of the registration period, per-iod, Jan. 1, 1960 to Feb. 28. Commissioner Belnap pointed out that this certificate would be issued on a first come, first served serv-ed basis until the 10,000 plates were issued. |
