Show Snow Pack Is Only 30 of Normal Now Snow cover and water content in the American Fork Canyon area is only about 30 per cent of normal for this time of year. The announcement was made on Tuesday morning by Timpanogos Cave Superintendent Thomas Walker, after a recent survey. The following is a report of the snow measurements at three important locations. The first figure is the present snow cover and the second the normal for this time of year. Timpanogos Divide, 22.7 inches in-ches and 52.8 inches; Altamount 15.7 inches and 38.5 inches. South Fork Ranger Station, 11.7 inches and 21.5 inches. Water content of the snow cover at the three locations show a similar deficiency, according to Mr. Walker. Timpanogos Divide, 5.1 inches of water as compared to the normal nor-mal of 16.4 inches. Altamount, 3.4 inches and 11.5 inches. .South Fork, 2.7 inches and 6.0 -inches. However the picture is not as dark as one could assume. Mr. Walker stated. Springs in the area are running slightly higher than normal due to the extra heavy rainfall during the early months of 1958, he said. |
