Show Baffle Creek I Breeze BY K. B. ' r Failure to obey a stop sign has already cost the lives of three Salt Lake teen-age girls, and committed commit-ted to the hospital the driver of the car, in a most critical condition condit-ion If this thoughtless youngster survives, he will be confronted with a life of bitterness and remorse; re-morse; but all of this will not restore the lives of these beautiful girls nor assuage the mental anguish of their grief-stricken parents. The flouting of the law in the faces of complacent parents and lethargetic enforcement officers has become so commoplace in our V ' ryi t American com- munities that ; distasters of . this kind are of almost daily t occurance. s In our own i city we have on the statute books an ordinance ordin-ance prohibiting prohibit-ing the operation operat-ion of an automobile auto-mobile equipped equipp-ed with a "cut- out" or other noice-making accessory. ac-cessory. All of the kids know about this; but still a few of them continue to drive such vehicles with impunity, and nothing Is done about it. Perhaps the violation of this law is not serious, in and of Itself; It-self; but continued disregard of any traffic ordinance soon leads to the voilation of others. It is not the purpose of this column to advocate unreasonable restraints on the right of anyone, young or old; but the operation of an automobile is dead serious business. When a motor car becomes be-comes a plaything, disaster quickly quick-ly follows. There is nothing more sacred nor valuable than the life of a young person just budding into manhood or womanhood. Death is so final and permanent. Certainly all parents and police officers have a definite responsibility responsib-ility in doing everything in their power to prevent tragedies such as the one mentioned above. Laws are enacted, not for the persecution of individuals, but for their own well-being and protection. protect-ion. Respect for the law is our greatest personal safe-guard. So long 'til Friday. i |
