Show I A Parm& Appreciates Work Dome By leaghers Last Friday the 6th grade pupils, 60 in number, of Pleasant Grove Central School, were taken on a glorious days entertainment to our State Capitol City. They were taken tak-en through the beautiful Hotel Utah, the Temple grounds and to the famous Organ Recital, an opportunity opp-ortunity few children have, this was a marvelous thrill to the youngsters, then to the State Capitol Cap-itol Building. Going through tnis building, into the Gold Room, the Governor's Room, where the Secretary Sec-retary of State, Acting Governor, presented eachchild with a painted postcard of the Capitol Building, then through the Deseret News Building. Ray Merrill, Principal of the Central School, is to be commended for his wonderful work that he has accomplished through his untiring efforts and willingness. Everything for the childs welfare and pleasure I is obtained. Through his efforts the school has a very fine moving picture pic-ture machine, with sound effects, a beautiful plush curtain, a well equipped lunch room, an electric music machine that plays recordings, record-ings, one of the finest ice skating ponds in this area is on the school grounds, this .project was given help by local clubs, but that was only the beginning, every night during the freezing weather, the first winter, one could see Ray up at the pond at 10:30 or 11:30 p.m. spraying water on the ice so it would freeze and be smooth for the students the next day. Not only did the children enjoy the skating, with music, but hundreds of adults were helped too. Many other things have been acomplished, but we know that one couldn't do this alone, it is with his leadership and with the help from a very loyal and united teaching staff, who assist in all the schools undertakings. Calvin Walker, who is loved by his pupils because of his untiring efforts eff-orts in doing extra work after school hours for his group, Lacy White, in her genteel way, wins over the students and Is loved and respected by all, in fact every teacher at the school is loved and respected. As a parent of one of those 6th graders who immensely enjoyed the trip to Salt Lake City, I would like to voice my appreciation and many thanks to Mr. Merrill and those assisting in making it possible for such a wonderful opportunity given the class. I think, and I believe there are others that would bear me out, that I we as parents take too much for ( granted, that we send our children . to school, because that is the law, and that the teachers, are supposed to teach them because through our taxes they get very small pay for it, considering the amount of time they devote to the school. Personally, I think, too little credit and appreciation is given our fine teachers. They think, eat and live nearly every hour for the pupils. Would we as parents davote 9 hours of every day, 5 days of every week, 4 weeks of every month, 9 months of every 12, an approximate total of 1620 hours of every year, plus the hours and hours at home preparations, do this for our chuldren's interests? No, decidely not. I'm afraid that we wouldn't have tiime, and yet our teachers do just that. I think Pleasant Grove's High School and Central School are indeed in-deed fortunate to have Karl Banks and Ray Merrill as Principals, and all teachers to be made up of such an excellent group. I thiink we are truly blessed and should in some small meeasure show our appreciation apprec-iation to them. For, after all, do we not entrust our child's entire future life in their hands? I grant there are exceptions, but some children whose parents are negligent, never can be taught but that is not the fault of the teacher as records prove there are far more who succeed In continued on page 8 , A PARENT' continued from page 1 life than those that fail. So, I say, as parents let us not blame our teachers if our children are not a success, but let us unite and give thanks and credit where it is due. Let there be a bond of cooperation and unity between par ents and teachers, as there is between be-tween teacher and princpal. Again I say, I am very grateful to all you teachers for opportunities opportun-ities and advantages given our children, for your thoughtfulness in their welfare and many hours you devote to their education. May we see the benefits derived from the P. T. A. and uniting with our teachers in our efforts in this direction of perfect harmony in the home and school is my desire. I'll sign off by saying ''Our hats off to a grand group of teachers," and grateful appreciation and many many thanks. Sincerely A Parent |
