Show Road Commission Calls For Bids For Highway Widening Project On American Fork Main Street W. D. Hammond, Chairman of the State Road Commission Commis-sion announced Wednesday that bids will be opened Tuesday, July 16, at 2 p. m. for the laying of 1 inches of natural rock asphalt on 4.Y2 blocks of the main street of American Fork in Utah county. The project will include widening of the street to approximately ap-proximately 72 feet. This involves the setting back of the curb a distance of 6 feet on each side of the street between First West and First East streets. The balance of the project provides that the Road Commission Com-mission will hard surface the street from curb to curb. This will give room for four lanes of traffic in addition to the Salt Lake & Utah Railroad tracks, and will also provide room for parallel parking on each side of the highway. It is expected that American Fork City will install curb and "utter on Mam street wnere tnere is none at present anu that the Salt Lake & Utah Railroad will resurface their right-of-way. Approval of the Public Roads Administration for Federal Aid will be contingent on this work being done. The project calls for 1450 tons of Rock Asphalt and 5600 square yards of concrete pavement. (Estimated cost is $50,000). Strong & Grant Construction Co. of Springville was low bidder for the construction of a steel and concrete bridge over Provo River on the Vineyard Road with a bid of $26,264, according ac-cording to W.'D. Hammond, Chairman of the Commission. The bridge will be a 2-span structure with a total length of 103 feet 4 inches and will have a 24 foot road clearance and two 5 foot sidewalks in addition. The sidewalks will be protected pro-tected by ornamental iron rails. - According to Mr. Hammond construction will proceed immediately and there will be little inconvenience to the traveling public as proper detours will be provided during the building of the new bridge. |
