While there, he attended the session ses-sion of the state legislature, at the capitol. The Bee Hive girls of Alpine stake enjoyed a "Bee Hive Buzz," in the form of a roller-skating party at Lehi, Monday. Under the direction direc-tion of Mrs. Jennie Wilde, stake Bee Keeper, and the Bee Keepers of the various wards, eighty girls enjoyed an evening of skating and a candy shower. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wright and Mrs. Elizabeth Thornton went to Cedar City last Saturday and visited visit-ed Mr. and Mrs. Sherman T. Wright and family. They returned Wednesday. I The members af the H. B. club were entertained at a bridge luncheon, lunch-eon, Thursday afternoon of last week at the home of Mrs. Elijah Chipman. Seven club members and 1 one special guest, Mrs. Alton Storrs, attended. Mrs. Stanford Briggs won the high-score prize- A large group from American Fork attended the annual Utah State Florists association party, held Monday evening in the Mirror Room of the Newhouse Hotel. The affair featured a banquet and a dance, and nearly 200 persons, florists flor-ists and their guests from all over the state, were there. Attending from American Fork were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Humphries, Mr. and Mrs- Owen Humphries, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Humphries, Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Singleton, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Grant, Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Madsen, Mr. and Mrs. David Cahn, and Howard Humphries. The Junior Literary league held an interesting meeting Monday evening eve-ning at the home of Mrs. B. N. Christensen, with Mrs. Relia Chris-tensen Chris-tensen and Mrs. Hortense Allen as the committee in charge. The program pro-gram featured a talk on "Correct Speech," by Miss Alice Hepworth of the American Fork high school faculty. fac-ulty. Mr. and Mrs. John Crooks and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Peck and son, all of Khelley, Idaho, also were week-end visitors at the Crook-ston Crook-ston home. The Thespian Society of the American Amer-ican Fork hltfh school, founded during dur-ing National Drama Week under the direction of Miss Essie Jane Howards of the high school faculty, held the initial meeting Thursday evening. A feature of the evening was the reading of a play by Miss Alice Hepworth of the faculty. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Strong and family of Alpine were Sunday dinner din-ner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Warren F. Anderson. The occasion oc-casion was Mrs. Strong's birthday anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Huggard and family of Helper were Sunday visitors visi-tors at the home of Mr. Huggard's mother, Mrs. Cora Huggard. Mrs. Hugh Cheever and son are visiting in American Fork at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Gais-ford Gais-ford and at Mrs. Ann Cheever's. She will remain here for another week. Organists and choristers of the Fourth ward and the auxiliary organizations or-ganizations of that ward held a meeting and social Monday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. McNeill. They took up the problems prob-lems of their work, with the objective objec-tive of making the music and singing sing-ing more attractive and of coordinating coordi-nating the music activities of the various auxiliaries. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hansen, Mrs. La Rue Morton, Mrs. Ora H. Chipman, Mrs. Fern Smith, Mrs. Lucille Par-duhn, Par-duhn, Mrs. Zelda Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. McNeill, Leslie Smith and Mrs. Gwen Adams. Naomi Brown and Ann Parker, who are attending the L. D. S. Business Busi-ness College, visited their parents Sunday. The Soiree bridge club members were entertained Wednesday night at the home of Mrs. Merma Carlisle. Mr. and Mrs- Eugene Healy of i Alpine motored to Twin Falls, Idaho, Ida-ho, where they spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Will Wright. Mrs. Eli K- Clayson and Mrs. Lillian C. Booth of Provo were visitors vis-itors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Eli J. Clayson, Sundap. Members of the Fourth ward M. IA. enjoyed a dance at the stake tabernacle amusement hall, Tuesday Tues-day evening following the regular class work. "Mrs. Leon Scott of Salt Lake City visited with her parents, Mr- and Mrs. Leslie Parker, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George E. Abel, Mrs. Meda Hunsaker and daughter, Dora, and Dee Jones motored to Tremonton Saturday and spent the day with relatives. They returned Sunday morning. Saturday evening a large group of young people 33 in number enjoyed a "George Washington Party" given by Evelyn Beck and Adair Bromley Jr., Saturday night at the Bromley clubrooms. Mrs. LeGrande Beck, mother of Evelyn, assisted Mrs- Margaret Bromley in serving. The tables were cleverly decorated de-corated in a patriotic scheme, with a small American flag as the favor at each place. Games were enjoyed later in the evening. Young and Mr. and Mrs. Leo G. Meredith returned Tuesday evening from a four day trip to Death Valley, Ne-j Ne-j vada. They stayed at the Furnace I Creek lodge, visiting the Death j Valley Scottie castle and other points of interest in Death Valley. The Dance Set will hold its next party on Monday night, February 17, in Firmage hall, officers announced this week. Members are asked to dress in aprons and overalls. Music will be furnished by Howard Nelson's Nel-son's orchestra. Mrs. Lewis Anderson of Monroe is visiting friends and relatives here. She is a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Fitzgerald. Miss NanRae Healey of Alpine spent the week-end visiting her aunt, Mrs. Eli J. Clayson of American Fork. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Jones of American Fork have received word from their son, Max W. Jones, that he has been nominated for election to membership in the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi, Iowa State College Col-lege chapter. The initiation banquet ban-quet will be held March 5. Mr. Jones is studying veterinary medicine at Iowa State. The members of the Arlitra Guild enjoyed a musical treat at their meeting Monday at the home of Mrs. Elijah Chipman.' Mrs. Harold Holley gave the lesson on the life and music of the composer Victor Herbert, and her talk was Dlustrated with selected select-ed music from Herbert's works. These included two vocal solos, "Ah, Sweet Mystery of Life", and "Kiss Me Again", by Mariam Young, accompanied ac-companied by Mildred Richards; and "Moonbeams" from the opera "The Red Mill," sung by a trio, Donna Cleghorn, Helen Adamson and Berniece Butte, accompanied by LaVonne Bennett. The American Legion auxiliary held their regular meeting Saturday Satur-day evening in the Legion hall. An interesting program on "Americanism" "American-ism" was presented, and this topic was discussed by Adolphus Pulley of the American Legion. The musical musi-cal program included a trombone solo by Betty Gaisford, accompanied by Mildred Richards; a violin solo by Dorothy Peck, accompanied by Miss Richards; and a piano solo by Luana Greenwood. A short talk was given by Mrs. Mary Roundy, who was in charge of the meeting. After the program a pot-luck lunch was served. Wednesday evening twenty couples, cou-ples, members of the American Legion auxiliary and their partners, enjoyed a party at Twin Pines. A hot dinner was served, and the evening spent in playing Rook, Pit and Donkey. Dancing followed. ; Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. George Larsen and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Siler of Spanish Fork. |
