Show David Gourley Candidate For Superintendent David Gourley, assistant state superintendent of public Instruction, In-struction, Monday announced his candidancy for the Democratic nomination for state superintendent. superin-tendent. The announcement was made after State Superintendent Charles H. Skidmore issued a statement saying he would not be a candidate for reelection. Mr. Skidmore has held the position since January 1, 1933. A native of Utah county Mr. Gourley was superintendent of the Alpine District schools for 15 years. He has held his present position for sfic years. If elected, Mr. Gourley said It was his intention in-tention to .continufe the present educational program. I It is Mr. Gourley's belief that the school serves two major functions: func-tions: First, to assist the war; effqrt as far as possible; second,-to second,-to train children so they will be prepared to carry on as good citizens in the future. The teaching profession should be made so attractive, Mr. Gourley Gour-ley believes, that the type , of teachers desired by parents for their children will naturally gra-itate- to the schoolroom. . |
