Show Relief Society Conference Held ; At Alpine ! The Alpine Stake Relief Society . members held their semi-annuai 3 conference Tuesday in the Alpine ; ward chapel with an attendance oi i 185. Stake and general board members mem-bers were present. Commencing at 10 a. m. they opened the meeting i by singing "Sunshine in Your Heart". After a short comparative financial and statistical report of the years j 1934-35 by the secretary, President 1 j Maud D. Christensen spoke of her ; appreciation Of the attendance of r two of the general board members, Mrs. Ida P. Beal and Mrs. Marcia K. Howells. She complimented the Re-, Re-, lief Society sisters on the splendid work they have so willingly accom-. accom-. plished in the stake. Mrs. Marcia K. Howells said it was not in numbers but in unity that determines success. She urged the bearing of testimonies in the Theology meetings, also an increase in magazine subscriptions. It was her thoughts that if we appreciate fully the magazine ourselves we may ' enthuse others to appreciate it and subscribe for it. The following sisters reported the 1 Reading Project .in then- wards: i Lucille Robinson, president of the Fourth ward; Lillian Brown, presi-, presi-, dent of the First ward and Hen-' Hen-' rietta Larson, secretary of the Highland High-land ward who read a poem on "Why . We Read the Bible." Mrs. Ida P. Beal said she was ; charmed with the singing mothers and complimented them on their work. She said she would like to see their numbers increase and felt this would come through appreciation apprecia-tion as this comes before participation. participa-tion. She urged the sisters to appreciate ap-preciate the splendid music over the radio which it is our privilege to listen to. Mrs. Beal mentioned the saving of Sunday eggs as one way -to get means for payment of magazine sub- , scription. She spoke of the Reading . Project saying "Budget your time as , you do your money and you can in time do the reading you desire. It ; isn't just the reading you do but . the good you get from it so take a . few notes as you read." : The afternoon session convened at 1:30 p. m. with president Maud D. Christensen in charge. A chorus from Alpine sang "Come Where the - Lilies Bloom." President Christensen spoke of the passing of one of the ex-stake board ' members, Mrs. Rachel Hunter. In honor of her faithful life and to keep her forever in memory, the , sisters of the Alpine stake Relief Society place in the Annie C. Hind-ley Hind-ley memorial, in the public library, here the book entitled "Utah Sings." The Literary lesson "Every Man" was then presented by the Fourth ward. President Christensen expressed thankfulness to the General board members for their attendance at the conference, to those who had taken part and all the sisters who attended, and the splendid reception given by the Alpine sisters. The Alpine chorus chor-us sang "Message of Love". There were 180 present at the afternoon meeting. o |
