Show Beloved Matron Called By Death Mrs. Emmeline Sykes Jacklin, 57, wife of John Jacklin, and beloved American Fork matron, died at the home of her mother, Mrs. J. W. Preston Monday night, following a lingering illness. Emmeline Preston Sykes Jacklin was born in American Fork October Octo-ber 3, 1876, the daughter of James j W. and Annie C. Preston. She grew to womanhood here, attending the public schools, and on February 22, 1899, was man-led to William Sykes of American Fork in the Salt Lake temple. The following March their union was blessed by the birth of a son, but tragedy followed swiftly on the heels of joy for within five months the young mother was a widow. She bravely took up the task of rearing her son and earning l a living. She went to Salt Lake and en-' en-' tered a nurses school from which she graduated and then returned to American Fork where for many years she engaged In nursing. Pro-fficient Pro-fficient also as a seamstress Mrs. Jacklin also did a lot of sewing. Her kindly, gentle nature made her particularly adapted for nursing and many a pain wracked body has been eased by her gentle ministrations. Mrs. Jacklin was for many years a member of the Second ward Old I Folks committee, was a Relief So- ciety member and a Genealogical i worker. In January, 1928. she married John Jacklin of this city, and gave to his family the care and love of a. mother of which they had been bnreaft. I Surviving are her husband, her j son. Glen Sykes. her aged mother, Mrs. James W. Preston, three bro-i bro-i I hers. Ellis Preston. Salt Lake: Fred Preston, American Fork, and William Will-iam Preston. Pleasant Grovp; also three sisters. Mrs. Nell Moffett. Mrs. Ann Barratt. and Mrs. Pearl Robinson. Rob-inson. American Fork: two grand-childi-en, Nina and Bill Srkes; and the following step-children: Raymond. Ray-mond. Alice. Edith. George, Ernest. Charles, and Mary Jane Jacklin. and Mrs. Ellen J. Tracy of Amerl nn Fork: Mrs. Matilda Jessen of Kinrrsfon, and Mrs. Sarah Roylanoe of Provo.
