Show Speedy Action Urged on Deer Creek Project American Pork City and American Pork Irrigation company were represented rep-resented at the Deer Creek Water project meeting in Salt Lake Monday Mon-day by Boy Greenwood, when those present requested that no time be lost in getting the project authorized authoriz-ed by the federal government and the work under way. A final meeting meet-ing on the matter prior to a state committee going to Washington will be held tomorrow. The committee members present at the meeting passed a motion to send a delegation to Washington early next week to present the project pro-ject to the public works administration. adminis-tration. The delegation is to consist con-sist of Governor Henrv TT Rloori. Congressman J. William Robm-son Robm-son and William R. Wallace, chairman chair-man of the committee. The delegation will work in Washington for the allotment of $10,500,000 of the public works fund for this project, which would furnish fur-nish employment to a large number num-ber of workmen on varied enter-prizes, enter-prizes, and would also provide an assured water right for lands now having only a partial right. At the meeting of western public works administration officials in Salt Lake Sunday, it had been indicated in-dicated that plans are being considered con-sidered for breaking up reclamation projects, once they axe approved, so that parts of the ' the works which are ready for construction might be undertaken at once, even if final designs for other parts are not completed. This is in line with the thought in the Deer Creek-TJt-ah Lake project, pro-ject, which is asking for the construction con-struction at once on the enlargement enlarge-ment of the Weber-Provo canal across Kamas bench, and for the initiation of work on the tunnel 'from the headwaters of the Dn chesne. This would provide employment em-ployment for many before the dam is really undertaken. It would be possible, under such an arrangement for necessary en largement or extension of existing canals in Utah and Salt Lake coun ties to be undertaken, even though the dam had not yet been started Construction of a highway on a new alignment, and also of a railroad in Provo canyon and probably frorr Park City to Heber City, will tx parts of this project when it is finally fin-ally approved. The water has practically all been subscribed for and the committee com-mittee are very desirous of rushing action on the matter so that work j might commence at the earliest pos-jsible pos-jsible time. The stipulation cover-ling cover-ling Utah Lake water rights has Ibeen signed, it was reported, by all the interested companies, save the Utah and Salt Lake and the South Jordan. These are awaiting return of counsel; the directors are favorable, favor-able, subjiect to such advice. Similar report from E. A. Jacobs, of the subscription committee, at the meeting Monday, was that the water users taking water from the above Utah Lake have been consulted con-sulted and are willing to pledge 92,000 acre-feet subscription in Deer Creek. Canal companies using us-ing water from Utah Lake will be asked to name definite amounts the- will be willing to purchase at $1.50 per acre-foot for 40 years. The required total to raise construction costs at that rate will be 170,000 acre-feet subscribed. Governor Blood and Mr. Wallace reported conversations they had had Sunday with Colonel H. M. Waite, deputy administrator of the public works administration, and H. T. Hunt, counsel. Colonel Waite motored with the Governor and Mr. Wallace to Ogden, and was shown the results of an assured supply of water, in contrast with lands which have only a partial supply. It was partly as a result of these conversations that the committee decided to request the officials to go to Washington early next week. The committee will meet again Saturday at 10 a. m. at which time it is hoped that all definite assurances assur-ances desired as to stipulation and subscriptions will have been given. Local committee members report that if the project is approved and the money alloted it will take at least three months time to get the project started, and likely, it will be towards spring before the real work will commence.
