Show Howard R. Driggs Visits City Our esteemed friend and f:rmsr citizen Dr. Howard R. Driggs. now of New York and president cf the western pioneer trails and landmarks association, met with members cf j the stake presidency 'and other officers offi-cers and the daughters of the pioneers pio-neers on Thursday in the log cabin. Dr. Driggs said the object cf this call is to renew our pledge to keep sacred our heritage and to preserve with markers and monuments th: story spots of our country. The plan was to commemorate the achievements of our pioneers by placing a permanent marker some where each year on Pleasant Grove's birthday, September 13. These monuments are not only to challenge the unthinking public, but back of it all lies history and ideals. To cultivate character one must have ideals to look up to. We should keep alive the life story of the people who made history. Each graduating class from our school should leave a volume of local lo-cal history made by themselves in song, story, or paintings. One local organization viz church, school, scout, civic, social, etc., should sponsor spon-sor one activity each year. He complimented Pleasant Grove for the support given, the library and also for taking the lead in this memorial work, which in its scope is national, state-wide and local. The activity this year is to repair and repaint the twelve first temporary tempor-ary markers erected in Pleasant Grove by the sons and daughters of the pioneers. |
