The history of the life of Mrs. Crompton, mother of Mrs. Emma Em-ma Smith, will be read and an interesting in-teresting munical program given. Local Items Mrs, Don Clyde and family of Ilcbcr, visited two days last week at, the home of her sister, Mrs. Thomas Priday cf this city. Mrs. Rudolph Clark and son left this week for Ulysses, Nebraska, for a month's visit with her parents, Mr. and Mi's. J. F. Grimm. Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Wilde and son, Dick, and Miss Lillian Wilde spent Tuesday in Salt Lake and at the State Fair. The dance at the Apollo this week will be a big confetti carnival and promises to be full of fun for all attending. The week following will be Straw Vote night giving all attending at-tending a chance to cast a vote as to how they would like to see the coming election turn out. Bird of Salt Lake City was 'a week-end guest at the home of her son, Kenneth Bird and family cf this city. Mr. and Mrs. Lennis Abel and baby also visited Sunday at the Eird heme. Mrs. Jarvis Ayclelotte and Mrs. William Roberts, the president and secretary of the Ladies Literary club attended a meeting of the State Federated Clubs held Friday of last week at the Newhouse Hotel in Salt Lake. Norma Gordon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hudson Gordon, was rushed rush-ed to the Lehi hospital Tuesday af-I af-I ternoon and operated on for a rup- tured appendix. The operation was ! successful and she was reported to be recovering nicely. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Grant of this city and Mr. -and Mrs. Booth Soren-sen Soren-sen of Lehi, enjoyed a motor trip up Payson canyon and around the Mt. Nebo loop drive Saturday afternoon, af-ternoon, of last week. They say the scenery is most beautiful at this ime due to the intensity of color of the leaves. They also enjoyed the novelty of eating their picnic lunch in a snow storm. The first meeting of the year will be held by the Fourth ward Relief Society at the ward house next Tuesday at 2 p. m. The theology lesson will be given by Mrs. Laura Kleinman and Mrs. Mae Wootton. The Tuesday following will be devoted de-voted to social work and the year's program reviewed. Mrs. Alice Beck and Mrs. Laura Timpson will be in charge of this meeting. Ma-, and Mrs. Joseph Mecham and children, Miss Berna Grant, Mi's. Samuel Wanlass and family motored motor-ed to Nephi Sunday and visited at the home of Elam Mecham and family. Miss Beth Simmons of Pittsburg has been a visitor the past ten days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Priday. . Miss Simmons is entering the Brigham Young University as a first year student this year. She is a sister-in-law to Mrs. Florence Priday Simmons. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Adams entertained en-tertained at a dinner Sunday in honor of the birthday of Mrs. Adams' father, Frank Bush. The guests seated at the table were, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bush, Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Bush and family of Eureka; Elmo Bush, McGill, Nevada; Howard Ho-ward Bush and the host and hostess of this city. The members of the American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion Hall Wednesday evening and enjoyed enjoy-ed a musical program followed by a short business meeting. Those on the program were: Rulon Brimhall vocal a,nd instrumental numbers; Mrs. Edna Boley, two vocal numbers; num-bers; and two numbers under the direction of Mrs. Priscella Murdock. Mrs. Leo Meredith entertained at a 1:30 luncheon at her home last Saturday, the guest list including the following: Mesdames M. L. Baird, V. F. Houston, Glen Sykes, David Taylor, Stanford Briggs, James Chadwick, Eslie Bennett, Howard Nicholes, Eldon Chipman, Russell Humphreys, E. H. Mrs. David Taylor won the high score award and Mrs. Melvin Grant the cut prize. The opening meeting of the Junior Literary League for the winter season sea-son will be held Monday, October 5, at 8 p. m. at the home ui Mrs. I Kenneth Noyes. Miss Steele has recently returned from a six weeks vacation trip to California and Mexico. Mrs. O. L. Despain of this city, Mr. and Mrs. Burton H. Adams and their mother, Mrs. M. J. C. Adams of Pleasant Grove, spent Tuesday in Payson attending the funeral of then- aunt and sister, Mrs. Amanda C. Wilson, o Mr. a.nd Mrs. Von Chipman and two children of Sugarhouse visited Thursday in American Fork and took Mr. Chapman's father, Alfonso Alfon-so Chipman, with them on a fishing fish-ing trip up Provo canyon. Eldred Nicholes returned to his home here and to work in Salt Lake Monday after a trip to the East. Eldred visited at Kansas City and Independence, Mo., Kansas City, Kansas, and at Chicago where he attended a convention of the managers man-agers and employees of the Flor-sheime Flor-sheime Shoe Company. A number of American Fork people peo-ple attended the wedding reception held Wednesday in the Timpanogos ward amusement hall for Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Rohbock. The young couple were married September Septem-ber 29, in the Salt Lake temple. The bride was formerly Miss Mildred Farley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Farley of Provo, the groom being the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rohbock, former residents of this city. They will make their home in Provo. Mrs. Harold Brooks was hostess to members of the G. A. club at her j home Wednesday evening. "The Rolling Years" by Alice S. Turn-' Turn-' bull, was reviewed by Mrs. C. A. Grant and Mrs. J. L. Mower gave a review of the new Parlimentary Law book that is to be studied by the club this season. The opening meeting of the club was held September Sep-tember 16 at the home of Mrs. Reed Robinson, president of the club. Business of the club was discussed dis-cussed and a written program of ' the year's work given each member. |
