Show Local Items Miss Mary Walton, who is attending attend-ing the Utah State Agricultural college col-lege at Logan, spent the spring vacation vaca-tion at home here. Mrs. Hans Christensen will be the hostess to the Sorosis club at her home Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Lee South and family of Malad, Idaho, were guests last Saturday and Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Gaisford. Mr. and Mrs. Jarvis Aydelotte visited on Easter with Mrs. Ayde-lotte's Ayde-lotte's mother, Mrs. E. S. Goddard of Provo. Sanford Bingham of American Fork was in charge of the boys' extemporaneous ex-temporaneous speaking section of the tenth annual Speech Tournament Tourna-ment and Drama Festival at Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university, held April 6, 7, and 8. Attending sessions of the general church conference, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Christensen spent Sunday and Monday in Salt Lake City. They also visited Mrs. Christensen's sister, sis-ter, Miss Mae Keddington. I. Mrs. J. L. Dunkley and Mrs. Lillian Lill-ian K. Brown spent Wednesday of last week in Salt Lake City, where they attended Relief society conference. confer-ence. Mr. and Mrs. Owen Lynch and Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy R. Griffin attended a party of the Salt Lake City 20-30 club, at the Ambassador hotel in Salt Lake City Saturday night. Mrs. Roy Steele, Mrs. Warren Boley, Mrs. Emma G. Anderson, and Margaret Adams returned Sunday evening from a trip to Southern California. They spent an enjoyable ten days on the Coast, and also visited visit-ed relatives there. At Huntington Park, Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Steele visited Malan Anderson, who Is employed em-ployed there. At Wilshire, Mrs. Boley and Mrs. Adams visited Owen Carter. Mrs. Louise Storrs was hostess to the Deltha Dames club, at the Bromley Brom-ley clubrooms Friday evening. A dainty luncheon, carrying out an Easter theme, was served. The evening eve-ning was pleasantly spent in playing cards, Mrs. Faye Briggs winning the guest prize, Mrs. Donna Tregaskis the club prize, and Mrs. Alta Varney the consolation favor.' Sixteen were in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Sabey, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Mott and Bernard Mott visited in Vineyard on Easter Sunday Sun-day with Mr. and Mrs. Parley Raw-lings, Raw-lings, and their new baby girl. Following "Mutual" Tuesday evening, eve-ning, Beehive Girls of the First ward were entertained at a closing party, given by Mrs. Burr and Mrs. La-Priel La-Priel Okey. Games were played, and refreshments were served. Dr. and Mrs. James Chadwick visited in Fillmore on Saturday and Sunday. They were accompanied by Mrs. Chadwick's mother, Mrs. F. L. Culmer of Pleasant Grove. At Fillmore Fill-more they were guests of Mrs. Ray Olpin. Members of the Alpine stake Relief Re-lief society board attended sessions of the Relief society conference at Salt Lake City Tuesday and Wednesday Wed-nesday of last week, and the reception recep-tion given by the general Relief society so-ciety board at the Newhouse hotel Tuesday evening. The group from Alpine stake included Mrs. Maud Christensen, Mrs. Mary E. Abel, Mrs. Elizabeth McAllister, Mrs. Hazel Walker, and Mrs. Jesse M. Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Roy McDaniel, visiting visit-ing in Utah from Colorado, spent Friday night and Saturday morning at the home of Principal and Mrs. Jesse M. Walker. While here, the McDaniels attended the Junior Prom, and visited former teaching associates of Mr. McDaniel. Mr. McDaniel Mc-Daniel was an instructor in social sciences at the schools here nine years ago. American Fork high school had entries in contest events at the tenth annual Speech Tournament and Drama Festival at Brigham Young university April 6, 7, and 8. Students from American Fork were entered in four events: Debating, Debat-ing, LaVonne Brown, Grace Clark, Lurae McDaniels, and John Walker; oratory, LaVonne Brown; dramatic reading; Jared Keller and Louise Hay ward; humorous reading, Ruth Chadwick. Helen Parker, accompanied accom-panied these students. Mrs. Sherman Robinson was elected elect-ed president of the Junior Literary league, at a meeting Monday night at the home of Mrs. Glen Robinson. Other new officers elected are Mrs. Glen Robinson, vice president; Miss Mildred Chipman, secretary; Mrs. Stanford Wilde, treasurer; and Miss Lillie Shafter, reporter. Earlier in the evening, a program featuring music and a literary lecture was given. A number was given by the trio, Mrs. Sherman Robinson, Miss Mildred Chipman and Miss Betha Storrs. Miss Maxine Westover took up the life of the author, George Santayana, showing the relationship to events in his career which explain certain aspects of his latest book, "The Great Puritan." Hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Glen Robinson Robin-son and Mrs. George Scott. Twenty-two Twenty-two members were in attendance. Mrs. Emma Stiener entertained the members of the Variety club and their partners Wednesday evening. A hot supper was served at 7:30, and the remainder of the evening was spent in playing games. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shafter of Bingham and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Shafter of Kanosh, spent Sunday visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence A. Grant here. Mr. and Mrs. S. F. Grant, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin W. Grant, Clarence A. Grant, Miss Lillie Shafter and Mrs. Lyle N. Grant visited Mrs. Victor Webb- at the Holy Cross hospital in Salt Lake City, early this week. Bishop Webb K. Brown of San Bernardino, California, in company with other L. D. S. church members from the Coast city, came to "Utah to attend general church conference. Bishop Brown spent Friday evening and Saturday visiting his mother, Mrs. Lillian K. Brown, and returned to California with the group Sunday. Miss Ellen Walker, Miss Helen Parker and Miss Ruth Rasmussen of American Fork, and Miss Laura Banner, Miss Edna Gillman and Miss Mayhew of Pleasant Grove, motored to Zion national park for the Easter services. They left here Friday, returning Sunday evening. Miss Mary Bloeschel, nurse at the Utah State Training school, attended attend-ed a meeting of District 3 nurses, at the Springville art center Saturday night. A review of the biography, "Madame Curie", was given by Miss Acord. After the meeting the nurses motored to the Riverside cafe at Provo for a lunch. |
