Show City Council Sets Week Of April 11-16 For Annual 'Housecleaning' Of Streets, Local Business Houses and Premises City To Remove Collected Trash At End of Drive MAYOR URGES COMPLETE COOPERATION OF RESIDENTS Plans for the annual citywide campaign during which streets and premises will be given their spring clean-up and fixing-up, were announced an-nounced Wednesday by Mayor Alma S. Kirk. The entire W'eek of April 11 to 16 has been designated by the city council for the community drive, Mr. Kirk said. During this period, residents will clean up their premises, rake up debris from parking areas and streets in front of their homes, and prepare to dispose of tin cans, ashes, and other unsightly accumulations. accumu-lations. All trash and rubbish will be gathered up and hauled away in city trucks and wagons, Monday, April 18, if placed in easily handled containers con-tainers and piles along the streets. As the vehicles will be available for one day only, residents are urged to get busy and complete the cleanup before April 18, Mr. Kirk said. The city council, sponsor of the campaign, suggested at a recent meeting that the cleanup week also would afford an excellent opportunity oppor-tunity for painting, repairing and renovating of homes and buildings, removal of fire hazards, and planting plant-ing of home gardens in vacant lots, and shrubs and flowers. Complete cooperation with the drive was urged by Mayor Kirk, who said that the cleanup was fixed to extend over the entire week in order that all residents might find the time to attend to the work.
