Show "Uncle Ezra" To Celebrate Birthday Ezra F. Walker, known to young and old in Pleasant Grove and Lindon as "Uncle Ez," will celebrate his eightieth birthday anniversary Saturday. In honor of the occasion, a family party will be held at the home of Mr. Walker's daughter, Mrs. George Lovell, at Lindon, the old Walker home where "Uncle Ez" has lived virtually all his life. Because he has been called upon many times, at Daughters of Utah Pioneers meetings, Old Folks parlies, par-lies, Pioneer day meetings, and other gatherings, to relate stories of the early days in this section, "Uncle Ez" is well known by the young people and older residents alike. Born in 1859 at Pleasant Grove, he recalls from personal ex-' ex-' perience and from accounts of his pioneer parents, many of the happenings hap-penings immediately following ' the settlement of Pleasant Grove, iiis fine memory, humorous and genial way add to his popularity as a speaker. Mr. Walker was born January 25, 1859, a son of Henson Walker, first mayor of Pleasant Grove, and Margaret Mar-garet Foutz Walker. He married Laura Brown, daughter of Bishop John Brown, a prominent church leader of the early days. One son, Ezra B. Walker, was born. Mrs. Walker died soon after. Mr. Walker later married Annie Swenson, and four children, all of whom are living, were bom to them. She died in 1920. Their children are Harold S. Walker, Paul K. Walker of Springville, Margaret Roper of Oak City, and Mrs. George Lovell. There are also 13 grandchildren grand-children and five great-grandchildren. Hunting and fishing are the hobbies hob-bies of "Uncle Ez." As a boy he learned of necessity to hunt and fish, in order to help support the family. He is still active, and still retains his liking for the outdoors. He always "gets his deer" when he goes on a deer hunt. His other hobby, Mr. Walker says, "Is fishing for souls." He has been on three missions for the L. D. S. church, to the Southern States in 1887 and again in 1907, and on a short term mission to California in 1925. He is now a stake missionary. He is also senior president of the 135th quorum of Seventies, and was the first counselor in the second organization or-ganization of the Y. M. M. I. A. here. i |
