Show County files forfeiture on drug home Steven B. Killpack, Utah County Attorney, has announced that under provisions of the Controlled Con-trolled Substances Act which were changed last July, the Utah Cou n ty Attorney's Office has filed a civil action seeking its first forfeiture of a personal home in Pleasant Grove. Police confiscated marijuana and a sophisticated indoor watering water-ing and lighting system to cultivate the plant in a recent raid. The new provisions allow seizure sei-zure and forfeiture of vehicles, moneys, and even buildings and residences used in the manufacture, manufac-ture, sale or production of controlled con-trolled substances. The County Attorney's Office is-currently is-currently developing an expanded forfeiture program and intends to dramatically increase seizures and forfeitures under the new law. Forfeiture of the home is being pursuedby the Investigations Division Divi-sion of the Utah County Attorney's Office. This seizure is the result of a search warrant executed by the Utah County Sheriffs Office on a home in Pleasant Grove on J an. 27, 1989, inhabited by Robert Dean Phelps and Kent E. Nielsen. Both were charged with Production Produc-tion of a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Controlled Substance Sub-stance with Intent to Distribute, Tax Stamp Violation, and Theft of Services. Phelps was arrested at the time of the warrant, but Nielsen is still at larere. Jim Tracy of the Utah County Sheriffs Office is heading the criminal investigation, reported that the Planning Commission Com-mission is working on updating the Pleasant Grove master plan. They have suggested that they straighten up the west boundary line of Pleasant Grove. It abuts with American Fork. Mayor Holdaway said that he would discuss the situation with the mayor of American Fork and see if something could be worked out. The Planning Commission thought that perhaps the street that is theboundary should be all in one town or the other to avoid duplication of services in the same street. |
