Little Rascals battle to championship in PI. Grove Girls Fast Pitch League y The Pleasant Grove Girls Fast ' (jl pitch League ended last week in a liercely competitive fashion. Throughout the season, the 1 Stingrays, coached by Larry S, Blackhurst and Phyllis Peterson, were undefeated. "s The Little Rascals, coached by 't Heidi Johnsen and Kali Church, had to take the long route through the bracket, after losing early. On Tuesday night, they began the evening by beating the Might Mitts 12-0. The win put them into the championship game with the Stingrays. Pitcher Mary Van Dyke led the team by striking out 12 batters and giving up only one hit. They beat the Stingrays in the first game, 14-0, and because of their previous loss, an additional game was necessary. The Stingrays were determined in this final match and came out hitting. Led by the bats of Angie Blackhurst andd Emily Gilson, the Stingrays kept the game close all the way, but the game was won on a single by Heather Mangum that drove in Jackie Anderson. Congratulations to all the girls who participated in the league this year. The league concluded at a skating party held at the Community Center during which team awards were made. 12-year-old most valuable players were: Kara Baker, Starz; Lisa Nuttal, Dandy Darlings; Merity Olsen, Fireballs', Nicole Pipkin, Hot Shots; Angie Blackhurst, Stingrays; Jamie Francom, Sluggers; Marcie Cottle, Might Mitts; Jackie Anderson, Little Rascals; Christy Farnsworth, Cruisers; and Angela Jorgenson, Stealers. |
