Viking men take third in Region 8 The Pleasant Grove boys raced to a third place finish in the Region 8 track and field meet Saturday and the girls were sixth in their division. The meet was held on the Provo High track. First place finishers and region champions were Todd Simmons and Craig Hayden for the boys as they paced the Vikings 65 point production. Simmons won the 100, 200 and 400 and was fourth in the high jump. Hayden jumped 6'6" to win the high jump. For the girls, the Region cham- pion was Rhonda Simmons with first place finishes in the 100, 100 m hurdles and 300 m hurdles. Rhonda was also third in the 200. Other point winners for the boys were Eric Cook in the 3200, Brandon Despain in the pole vault, Chris Larsen in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Paul Mattinson in the 100 and 400, Kirk Goodwin in the high jump and Cory Atkinson in the javelin. Atkinson, Mattinson, Larsen and Jerel Newman placed sixth in the 1600 m relay. Girl point winners for the Lady Vikings were Shanna Neilson ui the shot put, Lisa Hall javelin, Vikki Allred in the discus and Lena Kern in the 1600, 800 and 3200. Timpview won the boys meet with 117 points with Provo 88, Pleasant Grove 65, Springville and Spanish Fork 61, Carbon 50, Payson 39 and Uintah 37. Provo edged Timpview in the girls division 95-94 with Spanish Fork a strong third with 93. Uintah totaled 66, Springville 63, Pleasant Grove 59 and Carbon 26.
