Lady Vikes take second in region track meet Lila Fugal and Rhonda Simmons paced the Lady Viking track team to a second place finish in the Region 8 meet held Friday at Springville. PG collected IIOV2 points wh ile first place Provo posted 121. Third spot went to Uintah with 85 followed by Spanish Fork 65, Timpview 46, Springville 40, Carbon 25 and Payson 2. Fugal completing her senior year in grand style won the high jump, the 100m hurdles and was second in the long jump. Just a sophomore, Simmons captured the 100m and 300m hurdles. hur-dles. Jill West won the 800m, was third in the 1600 and Debbie Fisher was the best at 400m. The foursome of West, Simmons, Kirsten VanDyke and Fisher ran away with the 1600m relay and the same group ran the medley relay and won by an eyelash to give the Lady Vikes 8 first places in the 8 team meet. Other point winners for Pleasant Grove were Ronell Fielding, third in the discus and VanDyke, third in the 400 and Lisa Eastman. The boys team scored 42 points for seventh place. Timpview as first with 123, followed by Provo with 101, Uintah 95, Carbon 56, Springville 53, Spanish Fork 47, PG 42 and Payson 9. Todd Simmons, a junior, was the top point winner with second place finishes in the high jump and 200m and a third in the 100m. Sophomore Craig Hayden was third in the high jump, Brett Henrie fourth in the 800m and Tom Adamson was fifth in the 300m hurdles. Place winners will compete in the state meet this week at Weber State in Ogden. |
