The move of Deseret Industries into new quarters at 615 East State Road (the old Jack and Jill Lanes building) is nearly complete. . Grand opening at the new location will be Saturday, Aug. 24. The of-ficial ribbon cutting ceremonies will be at 9:30 a.m. with doors opening at 10 a.m. The store was formerly located at 53 Merchant Street. This store will be closed with the opening at the new site. The new facility houses a sales area for "new to you" clothing, household items, toys, tools, and almost anything available at the big retail stores of the area, according to John Dye, store supervisor. A branch of the Provo Deseret Industries, the American Fork outlet has seven employees, and is one of over 40 stores' in Utah, California, Idaho, Colorado and other states as well as Chile, of-ficials said. Deseret Industries is a non-prof- it welfare enterprise built on the principles of thrift, giving, work and sharing, Mr. Dye said. "We are grateful to the local Priesthood leaders in assisting us in establishing the store," he said, adding, "The purpose of Deseret Industries is to help people help themselves - to encourage in-dependence rather than depen-dence, work rather than idleness." Objectives of Deseret Industries include: Providing employment within the welfare program, insofar as possible, for those who cannot otherwise obtain gainful em-ployment. This includes rehabilitating needy members by providing work, training, com-panionship, and skills which will enable them to become independent and Produce quality items for use on a bishop's order and low cost items for sale to the public, thus promoting thrift. Provide an opportunity for those who have to share their means and talents with those who have not. Provide a means whereby goods can be recycled, renovated, and made usable, thus avoiding waste. Initial operating funds for a Deseret Industries unit are provided from the fast offering funds of the Church. Thereafter, units should be and should generate operating funds from sales. Deseret Industries, officials said, is basically a storehouse where a bishop can obtain merchandise to assist needy famlies. It also gives employment to the handicapped and elderly who need it. The store is open to the general public and offers a place to obtain good used items at reasonable prices. Deseret Industries employees Allen Winters, Eldon Jones, Dorena Brown, Talvin Teuscher, John Dye, Rusty Lensch and Carl Werner invite you to visit their new store which opens Saturday, Aug .24.
