Show 17th Ward takes first in slow pitch tournament Four stakes recently participated in the regional Church Slow Pitch Tournament in Battlecreek Park. First place was taken by Pleasant Grove 17th Ward from Pleasant Grove East Stake. Second was won by Pleasant Grove 6th Ward from Manila Stake. Seventeenth Ward came through the winner's bracket, undefeated, and Pleasant Grove Sixth Ward came through the loser's bracket. In the championship game, the Sixth Ward beat the 17th Ward, thereby making the tournament go into a championship "if" game, which the 17th Ward won. The two teams battled long and hard with the score bouncing back and forth until the 17th pulled out and won. Members of the 17th Ward team were Dan Louder, Kevin Bezzant, Guy Blain, Don Allen, Mike Williamson, Gerry White, Danny Smith, Steve Francom, Larry Goodwin, Jeff Brittain, Kent Allen, Joel Murphy, Rich Town-send, Town-send, Del Campbell and Brett Campbell. The 6th Ward had Herb Gilbert, Doug Christensen, Wes Duvall, Dave Taylor, Keith Morris, Craig Hreinson, Mark Neeley, Mark Atwood, Steve Smith, Mark Strong, Tom Busby, Wayne Park, Scott Rackman, Rex Walker and Wes Southam. Timpanogos 16th Ward took third place, and Pleasant Grove 8th Ward took fourth. The tournament ran from July 31 through August 9, and involved a total of 21 teams, including in-cluding two teams from LIndon. In Division I in league play, Cedar Hills and Pleasant Grove 13th Wards had the best winloss record with 8 wins and only two losses. In Division II, Pleasant Grove 8th WArd and Pleasant Grove 12th Ward also had 8 and 2 winloss records. The program was run by Dennis and Diana Carter. They are to be commended for their work with the program and the upgrading of the program. |
