Winners were named from a field of 36 participants in an Honor Recital, and were the winners of the Student Achievement Program held recently. BYU otters workshops The Summer Education Workshops at BYU during June, July and August will include nine courses designed especially to help parents take an active role in their children's education. More and more parents are becoming involved in the education of their children because they believe that the public schools cannot do it all. Many are finding their children need individual help with reading, math, coping with stress, and other challenges in their ! lives, said Dr. Lee Christensen, ; I coordinator of the workshops. : ! The potpourri of interesting : courses for parents will provide an opportunity for them to acquire the understanding and skills they need to teach their children. They will also have the opportunity to meet with teachers from all over the country," he said. The workshops planned specifically for parents are "Structured Tutoring for Parents," "How to Help the Accelerated Child," "The World of the Mother -Coping with Stress," "Helping Children Cope with Crisis," "Eliminating Self-defeating Behavior," and . "Infant Academics." Classes in weight control, microwave cooking, and Chinese cooking will also be offered for those who are interested.
