V .... if i UfcMUMJ Mark Johnson, City Recorder-Administrati- Assistant-recentl- y co mpleted an extensive five day institute at the University of Utah. The schooling is a program of the In-ternational Institute of Municipal Clerks and the five day seminar was sponsored by the Utah Municipal Clerks Association, the Utah League of Cities and Towns and the University of Utah Center for Public A-ffairs and Ad-ministration., Mark, who serves as president of the Utah Municipal Clerks Association, noted that the beginning of the institute program in the state of Utah is an achievement of many years of effort by the association. In years past those clerks and recorders desiring this training had to travel to either Arizona or Colorado and.only a few Utah clerks and recorders have previously attended institutes in these other areas. Concerning s the in-stitute program Janice Miller, technical assistance coordinator for the University of Utah said, "This annual institute will afford most town clerks and city recorders in Utah the chance to earn their CMC award and at the same time teach valuable skills to the municipal officers in the state. Mr. Johnson indicates that the CMC award is an indication of a strong desire of the person to learn skills and gain additional knowledge that will help the person in hisher position as clerk-recorde- r. Curriculum for the institute includes 50 percent in public ad-ministration, 30 percent in social and in-terpersonal concerns and the remainder in electives. Each institute offers 37 hours of in-struction. The University is the 32nd , educational institution offering a program meeting the In- - ' ternational Institute of Municipal Clerks certification requirem-ents. Instructors are drawn from city, county and state government and from the academic community. Mark reports that he enjoyed the week at the institute and learned much from the classes taught but indicated that association with other clerks and recorders and MARK JOHNSON, Pleasant Grove City Recorder, is one of the busiest men in the city trying to keep tabs on all facets of city government. discussion of common problems was as valuable as the prin-ciples taught during formal class in-struction. He expressed appreciation to the mayor and city council for allowing him the time and supporting him in attending this school. I ,im. mii iiiiiiimii Sal 1 . :: 1 Mcfc - ' cs f .
