The Utah Pageant of the Arts production of "The Mad Woman of Chaillot" in August will conclude the summer drama season, with some of the summer drama workshop students participating in that production, Miss Fillmore said. It is expected that with the completion of a permanent Pageant facility the instruction in the expansion arts programs will move into a year-round effort, building up a corp of students with drama training and experience. A major goal is the production of a showcase where youth drama students and young actors would have the opportunity to participate in dramatic productions with professional actors. Miss Fillmore emphasized that the exposure of the students to new experiences of drama are both profitable and productive. The Pageant sponsored workshop was planned as a general introduction to drama and was of great benefit to the 20 participants. A successful summer drama workshop for students ages seven through 17 concludes this I week, according to Catherine Fillmore, instructor. The drama workshop is one of the expansion youth programs sponsored by Utah Pageant of the Arts to provide experiences in the performing art. Classes began June 2 at the old American Fork Junior High School building. Miss Fillmore, an accredited director and actress, conducted the workshop, with specialists brought in to present special training and classes. Nita McKenzie presented classes on voice, with Dennis Hullinger presenting makeup classes. Don Parker, a choreographer and movement specialist, presented movement classes. Miss Fillmore taught classes on pantomime and auditioning. Specialists were utilized to add dimension and scope to the program, Miss Fillmore said. Students were given a general introduction to drama through the workshop and were challenged to work together with both younger and older students in various scenes and improvizations.
