Show Lowe Has Best Time ; In 10K P.G. Run More than 100 runners started and 92 finished Thursday mornings 10K (6.2 mile) Strawberry Days Road Race. Competitors in seven divisions started at the high school, ran up 200 South to Loader Avenue, through Lindon Park to the highway, then back to the West Winds Cafe and up the parade route to the high school. George Lowe, running in the 26-32 year old division turned in the best time of 34:10 with Chris Brooks of Provo just 55 seconds behind. The course record of 33:23, set in 1979 by Gordon Hullinger will stand another year. Top finishers in each division: Elementary Boys -- Brandon Taylor, 45:37; Brook Blackhurst, Matt Bulkley. Girls -- Amy Norman, 61:27. Junior Senior High Boys -- Rob Gray, 39:32, Ron Reynolds, Mike Fisher, Mark Meldrum. Girls -- Jill West, 50:39; Kim Norman, Wendy Warburton. College Men -- Terry Thomas, 37:42. 19-25 Boys - Dave Noker, 37:42; Mark West, Burt Farley. Women - Susan Holm, 50:51; Charlene Sanderson, San-derson, Paige Martin. 2G-32 --George Lowe, 34:10, Chris Brooks, Bruno Hunziker. Women -Viona Davis 53:05; Sara Manbolmer, Elaine Jarvie. 33-40 Men -- Steve Sowby, 38:55; Steve Baugh, Don Jones. Women - Jennie Groves, 48:45; LuJenn Hullinger. 41-49 Men -- Tad Norman, 39:39, Gary Wood, Ross Thomas. Women -Georgie Fralick, Carol Hullinger. 50 and Over Men Jerry Peterson, 46:12, Bob Hicks. Wilkinson Trophies donated medals for the first three place finishers in each division while Taco Siesta and the Purple Turle donated ice for the runners. A few runners questioned the 9:25 a.m. starting time indicating that the weather is cooler much earlier. Bill Hoglund, PG city Recreation Director indicated that one goal of the race was to allow runners to run the last mile along the parade route to give recognition and encourage participation. |
