Show Pleasant Grove Annexes Manila Following the decision of the Utah County Boundary Commission last December, a portion of Manila from 1100 North in Pleasant Grove to 8800 North in the county became a part of Pleasant Grove City. This annexation added several hundreds of acres to the city as well as several hundred persons. Many residents of the Manila area had asked for annexation to Pleasant Grove city earlier in 1979. The annexation was contested by Cedar Hills and was one of the first annexation protests handled in Utah under the new state law regarding annexations. an-nexations. The commission decided that a certain area of Manila adjoining Cedar Hills would be included in Cedar Hills. Some of these residents have objected to the annexation to Cedar Hills and have brought suit in court over the matter. No decision has been reached as yet. Some of these residents have charged that a number of the names on the Cedar Hills petition were not proper signatures. During the year the city has worked closely with the county in the transition so that buildings met city codes, etc. City services for police protection has been extended into the area, although the fire department and ambulance service were already contracted there by the county. A Manila area planning committee was set up and a member of the committee was also named to the Pleasant Grove Planning Commission to represent that area. |
