Show ays A bel District Finances Strong ie Alpine School District finished the 0 fiscal year in strong financial Jition, according to Kent J. Abel, stant superintendent and clerk-surer. clerk-surer. presenting his annual financial report members of the district board of cation, Abel said the unappropriated 1 balance of $1.8 million at the end of fiscal year is about 5.5 percent of the 's appropriations and represents a ich needed resource" in light of nue uncertainties facing Utah's school ticts during the 1980s. The unappropriated balance, however, saw only a $100,000 increase from the prior year which represents an efficient 'constraint on expenditures to equal ' available revenues," according to Abel. He warned that the district has never had sufficient money with which to work. Although Utah is on an equalization formula, 13 of the largest districts --including --including Alpine - have voted leeways to provide additional maintenance and operation funds, he said. "Because of this, it requires an extreme amount of advanced planning and good administration to compete with other districts in the recruiting and keeping of teachers, as well as in educational programming," Abel said. Despite a steady increase in enrollment, the district has kept up 'fairly well" on its maintenance and operation, Abel noted, but warned "the district is falling behind very rapidly in the capital outlay program." Alternatives also need to be considered, he said, including reloctable classrooms and some type of year-round school. |
