Show FREEDOM OF THE PRESS Freedom of the press can be interpreted to mean that : anyone may publish a newspaper, a newsletter, a magazine, a pamphlet or book without being required to receive approval from any authority. It includes the right to publish facts as well as opinion, opi-nion, and then distribute the publication without inter- I ference. To insure that publications are responsible, laws of libel provide for punishment of false and injurious statements. But freedom to speak, broadcast, or publish means that no law can be enacted to exert "prior restraint" against anyone. Because the U.S. Constitution Constitu-tion guarantees freedom of the press, we have more publications publica-tions on more subjects available to us than any citizen of any era has ever enjoyed. |
