Refreshments carrying out the Harvest theme were served by the hostess. Members present besides those already mentioned were Grethe The Elysium Club held its first meeting of the club year in the beautifully autumn decorated home of Betty Memmott. Vice president Vicki Young presided over the meeting in the absence of President Irene McCuistion. The new Eyre, Dora Faux, Joan Flinders, Gayu Alldredge, Sharon Fullmer, Pauline Jarvis, Sara Jense, Glenna Kohler, Darylene Nickell, Madge Peterson, Kathy Smith, Alta Taylor, Geniel Waid, Janet Wells, Darla Smith and new member Joan Merrill, who was in-troduced. The next meeting will be held at the home of Gay Alldredge. officers for the coming year were introduced and the activities for the year were outlined. Carol Harmer, Colleen Harris and Norma Ovard presented a charming program using the theme "You light Up My Life,". They completely surprised the club members by reading biographical sketches highlighting the per- - Jennie Kirk Allred Will Be Honored on Sunday jj Mrs. Jennie Kirk Allred will be honored at her 80th Birthday party . The gathering will be held at her daughters .Colleen McMillans, located at 50 South 800 West, Lindon, Utah from 4:30-7:0- 0 p.m., Sun-day, October 15, 1978. Jennie is a native of Lindon, Utah. She was bom October 15, 1898 to William John Kirk and Margaret Annie Richardson, she was the oldest of nine children. Jennie attended grade school in Lindon for 8 years. Her education was discontinued after the 8th grade because of responsibilities at home. Clark Allred married Jennie on November 1, 1917 in Provo. Her four children are Lawrence Allred (deceased) Genivieve Hansen, Collen McMillan, and Kirk Allred. She is the 80th BIRTHDAY Jennie Kirk Allred will be honored on 80th Birthday at party Sunday. proud Grandmother of 16 grandchildren and 23 n . For 23 years Jennie worked as a cook for the Public School lunch program. She has used her cooking skills in helping the Girl Scout Camps for 16 years and preparing innumerable ward banquets. Many hours of service have been donated to the Boy Scouts of America resulting in special recognition and awards for her efforts. Her church service has been extensive. She served 18 years in the Primary Association. Recently she completed a TempleTour of six temples. Senior Citizens has been a joy during the last 8 years. Jennie is a volunteer plus an active member in the local group. Jennie and her family wish to extend a welcome to all her loved ones and friends to the Open House. Please no gifts. v si MISS SANDY THERON Sandy Theron to Wed Vance Mendelkow Mr. and Mrs. Theron Nay, Pleasant Grove are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Sandy to Vance Mendelkow. Mr. Mendelkow is the son of Mr. and Mrs Gerome Rasmussen of West Mountain. Their marriage will be performed at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, October 14 at the home of Sandy's parents 520 East 990 North Pleasant Grove. An Open House will be held immediately following the cermony. The ceremony was performed in the St George L.D.S. Temple, St. George, Utah. The couple were honored at a garden reception on October 6, 1978 at the home of the brides parents Kingman, Arizona. An open house will be held in their honor October 13, 1978 at 400 North 770 East Lindon, Utah at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marlow Tolman from 7:00-9:0- 0 p.m Friends and relatives are cordially invited. The new Mrs. Roberts is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ardell Wolsey of 1925 Sunset Blvd. Kingman, Arizona. She recently returned from an L.D.S. Mission in South Carolina and is presently a student at B.Y.U. The groom, son of Geneva L. Roberts of Lindon, and the late W. Lamont Roberts. The couple will be at home at 421 North 645 East Lindon, Utah. Hospital Notes Among babies born at the American Fork Hospital to parents from the Pleasant Grove and Lindon areas during the past week ending Oct. 4 were the following: Sept. 30, a boy to Michael and Becky Williams Oct. 1, a girl to William and Dawn Pace Dettle Octe. 2, a girl to Jay and Nikki Harris Roundy of Lindon. Battle Creek Camp, DUP Has meeting The Battle Creek Camp DUP met at the home of Maymetta Johnson for the first meeting for this season. The meetng started at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 with Captain Maymetta Johnson in charge. She welcomed all who were present and announced that new members will be invited to join. Prayer was given by Chaplain Alta Hone, and roll call and minutes were given by Cora Bezzant, secretary. Alta Hone, who is in charge of the museum and log cabin, gave a report on a meeting with the City Council to see what could be done on improvements for the buildings. Iona Weyland, historian committee member, introduced Geneva Warnick, who gave a report on the fir-st school houses in Pleasant Grove. She started in the first grade in the school house that now is the Third Ward Church. The Museum was one of the first school houses. The group sang "Utah We Love Thee," led by Mrs. Johnson with Florence Holt at the piano. Lesson leader Viola Cowley gave a very in-teresting and infor-mative lesson on Economic and Territorial Progress. She told of the first telephones and first phonograph. The set-tling of different areas and some of their ex-periences was also narrated. Tasty refreshments were served to Cora Bezzant, Ruby West, Cora Messersmith, Beth Wright, Geneva Warnick, Lydia Hilton, Eva Proctor, Sadie Beck, Gertrude Richar-ds, Viola Cowley, Merle Tomlinson, Lillian Swensen, Susie Church and Iona Weyland, and Florence Holt, a visitor, by Maymetta Johnson, Cora Bezzant and Sadie Beck. Variety Club Meets at Swenson Home Recently Margret Kelley, Beth Warburton, Evelyn Schoonover, Juanita Larson, Mary Harper, Ida Halliday, the hostess Mary Swenson, and Glenda Richens. Variety Club mem-bers spent Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Swenson where they enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared and served by the hostess and her daughter Glen-da Richens in the at-tractively decorated family room. Following dinner, the group enjoyed a showing of slides taken by Joe and Mary on a recent tour and visit to the Mormon Pageant, Niagra Falls, Washington D.C., Nauvoo and other historic sites throughout the mid-west and eastern states. Present to enjoy the delightful evening were: Merle Armitstead, Thelma Swenson, E. E. Homers Move to N.M. 80th Birthday Mr. and Mrs. Ed-mund E, Homer who lived in Pleasant Groive in the past couple of years, have moved to Albuquerque N.M. to live by their son Marion, who has lived there for many years. Edmund celebrated his 81st birthday Saturday, Oct. 7 with friends and relatives in Albuquerque. The Homers lived here in the late 1940's, then moved away. Their son Raymond and his family moved back here several years ago. 4 LaLeche League Set Meeting La Leche League to meet Wednesday Oct. 18 at 8:00 at the home of Mrs. Dean Blackhur-s- t 1000 South Main Pleasant Grove. The Topic will be ad-vantages of Breastf-eeding. All interested women are welcome. We also have baby carriers and "Womanly Art of Breastfeeding" for sale.
