Show Last Wednesday . . . City Council Discusses Business With all members of the city council coun-cil present the regular first meeting of the month was held last Tuesday evening. The council discussed the demolition of the old junior high building and a report of a company interested in the demolition of the building which would pay for the demolition rights was heard. The council voted to further review this possibility but also to pursue the request for C.E.T.A. help to work on this building. Relative to use of the old junior chamber of commerce building as a meeting place for the variuos civic clubs it was reported that so far there has been little interest shown in the building for this purpose. Concerning the rental by the county for the courtroom cour-troom facilities used by the county justice of the peace it was noted that the county officals have not made a further contact with the city concerning concer-ning this matter. A letter from the Lindon City Major suggesting preparation of a written understanding for connection and monthly fees for water and sewer service on the common road between the two cities was reviewed. The council agreed to have the city attorney attor-ney prepare this agreement. Mayor Haynie reported that he had been contacted by the Four Corners Commission Com-mission about a possible grant to assist in the construction of the proposed water line to run along the foothills east of town running from Battlecreek to about 1 100 North. The formal application for this grant will be prepared and presented. Regarding the proposal to install curb, gutter and sidewalk on highway 89 from main street to 700 south, Council man Atwood reported on the meeting held recently with the state official and the property owners. He noted that the majority of the property proper-ty owners were in favor of the project but that two of the businesses in the area have a great concern about the effect his would have on their parking area. The state official will be asked to meet with these businessmen to explain the ramifications of the project as it relates to parking and entrances to the buisnesses. Councilman West indicated that a preliminary review of the operation of the water department shows a possible loss in this department. He noted that he will obtain additional financial information and report further fur-ther on this matter at the next council coun-cil meeting. The council discussed the need to install a fence on the south boundary of the new cemetery property. The council voted to go ahead with this (Continued on Page 5) City Council Met Last Wednesday Evening installation and that arrangements be made so that slats can be placed in this fence at a later date. Lee Wimmer, city consulting engineer, was present at the meeting to discuss various matters of business. He presented a payment request for work completed to date on the special improvement district. He noted that work is not progressing as had been expected because of the cement shortage in the county. The council voted to approve this request for payment. Concerning the need for topographic maps in the areas north of the city, Mr. Wimmer reported that this cost is estimated at $10,000. The council felt that the necessay funds could come from the impact fee fund as these photos are necessitated because of the future growth into - these areas. The possibility of establishing an annexation (no f VipIo cover these expenses were also discussed. The need to relocate the pressure reducing station on 100 North east of the canal was discussed by Mr. Wimmer. It was decided that the three effected developers get together to resolve this relocation and allocate the costs equally. If this matter has not been resolved within two weeks, the council authorized the witholding of building permits in this area until the matter is worked out. Buck Scott, developer of the Wade Springs Subdivision, was present at the meeting to discuss an urgency in getting building permits issued for this subdivision. The council agreed that as soon as the city engineer approves ap-proves the grading plans for the area and is assured that all else is in order that building permits will be issued. |
