Solar Engineer Testifies at Hearings in Utah Department of Energy hearings were held in the Salt Palace Wednesday Wed-nesday June 21 to consider local in-' in-' put into determining the direction the federal solar energy program should go-Jim go-Jim Phillips, President of Sun Stor corp., Pleasant Grove, testified that the high technology, active solar heating systems presently in vogue are too costly to maintain and may consume more energy in their manufacture than they can capture from the sun in their useful life span. Mr. Phillips further testified that the solution to our solar energy problems is to use low technology, passive systems which are self operating and easily maintained by the home owner. Mr. Phillips suggestions were well received and he hopes the federal government will place more emphasis on passive systems in the future.
