Show Christmas Tree Cutting Prohibited In P.G. District Uintah National Forest Ranger, Harry Opfar, issued a reminder today that Christmas tree cutting is prohibited on the Pleasant Grove and Heber Ranger Districts. Many conifer trees are destroyed or permanently damaged by illegal cutting at this time of the year. Tops are often cut out of trees in or near the recreation areas and along roads. Damage to the trees, and the beauty of the environment is unmeasurable, but definitely noticeable. As much as 30 years of growth are necessary for a tree to attain "Christmas tree" size. Last year two individuals were apprehended with trees cut in American Fork Canyon. These individuals were prosecuted and paid fines. The fines did not restore the beauty of the natural environment. en-vironment. Some of the trees which have been destroyed are . irreplaceable. Violators will be prosecuted and Forest Service and County Sheriff's Officers will be patrolling the National Forest lands. Ranger Opfar asks the public to become more concerned con-cerned for their National Forests. He said, "The Forests are ours to enjoy and use".
